Automatic ride upload

I've noticed that once I save my ride and get the successful message it doesn't get uploaded to GC unless I manually hit the Upload ride option on 520. If I open GC and it says that is syncing with 520 the ride isn't uploaded.
On my Vivoactive once I save the ride and there is a connection between Vivoactive and my phone, the ride is automatically uploaded to GC.
I am missing some option for this or do I have a connection problem ?
  • You have the same as me, only once has auto upload worked even though the 520 states that the upload has happened.
  • My rides upload fine since day one of getting the unit..

Just checking the obvious here... In the Garmin Connect app go to Devices, then select the Edge 520, then select Device Settings.. Auto upload is toggledON right?
  • Yes, the Auto-upload was enabled in settings and as Milkfloater said I think I also saw the message on 520 that the ride was uploaded but couldn't find in GC.
Now I disabled auto-upload and enabled it again, tried an activity and this time worked...don't know, I'll keep an eye on this.
  • This is the behavior I've noticed in regards to this:

Even though my iPhone reports that both bluetooth links (BT 520 and BTLE 520) are connected, the 520 itself will report "Searching". What it's really searching for is the Garmin Connect app. As soon as you run the GC app, the searching message goes away and the 520 will report "Connected"

At the completion of a ride, my 520 will not auto upload unless the GC is running - and even then sometimes it won't work. If I kill and restart the GC app, it always uploads correctly. Yes, I have the latest (just released) version of the GC app.

Fortuitously, I have found the 520 can report "Searching" and you will still receive call/txt notifications when riding.
  • My experience has been that the Garmin Connect App has to be open for the upload to occur. This applies to both my 510 and 520. Once I open the app on my phone, the Bluetooth pairing occurs followed by sync/upload. The 520 after 2 weeks of use has yet to fail sync/upload, much less finicky than the 510.

However, the 520 is lightning fast with its BT 4.x chip-set vs the 510.
  • Same experience here on the 520. The GC app has to be open and in focus for auto uploading to trigger.
  • I had the same problem but after following the steps in this thread
    https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?318944-Uploading-to-Garmin-Connect-after-Ride

I've not had a single issue since August

It doesn't have to be in focus. Just start the GC app after each phone restart, and it will connect and auto upload the rides
