Edge 520 powers up when plugging and unplugging

I switched from an Edge 500 to the 520. The 520 powers up when plugged in to charge it as well as when I unplug it, is this normal? It's annoying because I have to power it down when plugging it in or unplugging it. This didn't happen with the 500.

So to be clear, the unit will be off and when I unplug it, it powers up. The until will be off and when I plug it in to charge, it powers up. Thank you in advance.

Mine does the same but it goes back to sleep quickly so it's a bit of a moot point for me. There's virtually no effect on battery life.

I see, I guess I'll just let it be. Thank you for the comment.

Same thing here. I too thought it was a little unusual. I'm not crazy about it as I have to manually turn it back off each time.

Is there any way to stop the Edge 520 from powering up when you unplug it from a USB connection?
  • I hate this too. Whoever thought of this needs his head examined. Serves no purpose as far as I can see.
  • I can't understand the logic behind this either ?

Not sure why Garmin changed the behavior from the 500/510, but what about using the Power and lap buttons to force mass storage mode when it is plugged in?
  • Please Garmin - update the 520 to shutdown after unplugging the USB

    Please Garmin! Listen to us!

    1. I don't want to configure the unit with a sleep inactivity because I race with it, and I don't want it to ever be asleep when I'm starting the bike part of a race.
    2. I don't want to have to manually shut the unit down after I unplug it when it's done charging. This is dumb.

    Agreed

I plugged my 520 in to charge, and assumed it would auto sleep as usual, but ti didn't.
Next morning I noticed that the screen had been on all night, and the unit was really warm. Can't be good for it's lifespan.

I wish there was a way to prevent the 520 from powering up whenever I plug it in.

There are a lot a lot thousand things where Garmin ignors and makes things just not to understand. This is why i switched to the Wahoo Element Bolt. Its a dream. Everything works as expected, no surprises. I do not want to have any night mares with these Garmin devices. And i own many......, there is no difference....
