  • Try a force to mass storage.

    Force to Mass Storage:

    • Power the device off
    • Press and hold the lap button while plugging into usb (with or without factory cable)
    • Wait 10 seconds and device should go to mass storage

I'm having the exact same issue; just got my edge today...used it on the trainer for a while to get it configured, and it is now unable to start.

    Hi
I am having exactly the same issue as well (only used twice).
I have managed to get the device into storage mode and the computer now recognises the device. Any tips to get it working?
    Thanks for any assistance.
  • It is likely an issue with a file that is getting processed at start-up.

Have you replaced the base map that came on the unit?

Check the Garmin\NewFiles folder. if there is anything in that folder then empty it.

I would also move all the files in the Garmin\Activities folder out of the folder and on to your PC and then see if it will start.

If it still will not start then you may need to try a reset.

    Prompted non-vol clear –

    • Turn device off
    • Hold the Down key while powering on the device
    • Continue holding the down key until the “Factory Reset” prompt appears
    • Select OK to clear

    Another dead 520

Just received a new 520 today..

Configured it connected it to Garmin Express.. Let it charge via USB to 100%..

Now when you try to switch it on it starts to power up then briefly shows an image of a power button
    symbol beeps and shuts down..

Rang Garmin support suggested copy basemap file to PC format the Garmin drive then re add basemap file..

Still no good won't power on :mad:
  • My second Edge 520 (which I recieved after the first I got died) is also dead now

    Hi,

Just wanted to let you know I have a second Edge 520 that will not start/boot up.
Quite annoying to be honest. There must be a way to fix this without sending it back.

    All the best, Stian
  • My Edge 520 still has this booting up issue (where it won´t boot)

Talking to support as we speak. This is the fourth time I´ve spoken to support and they apperently don´t take this seriously.
As I am given the same solution every time, even with a new device it keeps happening.
I know I am not the only one. Please, keep in mind who´s the customer. Thanks.

    The same here

    Hi,

    Did anyone solve this ?
My Edge 520 is facing the same problem...
I have to force Mass Storage connection (by powering on with lap pressed) and then delete the NewFiles folder to make it functional again.

    Thanks
    Dany.

Not able to get Edge520 into mass storage

I have the same issue, but I'm not able to bring Edge 520 into mass storage mode ... any tip?
After 10s it shows the battery percentage and then after 2/3s starts again the "normal" boot process and dies.

Great advice. Did all the above and still faced with the boot screen. I did all this after a master reset via the garmin menu to enable me to re-config my bluetooth. So, the unit was master reset but wouldn't boot. Tried the USB/lap reboot to force mass storage and fount a load of FIT files in the 'new folders' section. Deleted all these and it works again.
    Thx
