Problems with pairing to Stages and Bluetooth?

Has anyone else had trouble pairing to a Stages powermeter? It just doesn't locate it, my 500 was plug and play....520 plug and no work.

Also, the iPhone bluetooth connectivity worked for an hour and then stopped, never to return. It says unable to pair....

Not sure what is going on, firmware is UTD, used for 2 rides only.

I may return it and just use my 500, it actually works!
  • No problems pairing with the Stages -- just spun the cranks and the 520 found it right away. Used the 500 as a backup for the first ride but all went well.

I am holding off on connection to the phone. I don't need the call/text notification and will wait for wireless uploading until more people report success. Connecting it via USB is no big deal, particularly because I need to do it anyway to get the data to Golden Cheetah (yes, there is probably a wireless way but it is just not important to me).

    Garmin EDGE 520 ERRORS

I had some problems with the edge 520. It connected to my Stages Rival via Ant+ and did the calibration correct (888). But then it just wouldn't show the effect/watt numbers as it was always zero on the edge 520 although my edge 510 showed the correct numbers. The 520 didn't show the cadence numbers as well. Also the 520 didn't show my calories even though it showed my heart rate and linked up well with the heart rate belt. At all times during my ride the watt was 0, the cadence was 0 and the calories was 0.

I hope that Garmin is trying to fix the errors !

One suggest from stages was to turn Bluetooth off

From stages support: " I am not sure if the 520 has issues like the Edge 1000 has, but on the Edge 1000 we actually have had reports that it works better with bluetooth turned off as some users have had interference issues with their sensors while using bluetooth. I am not sure if this is indeed what is going on, but it seemed worth mentioning just in case it helps. "
  • Bluetooth issues

I am not sure its Stages specific. I have a Stages and Garmin Speed sensor and Garmin Edge remote. I have narrowed down my issues to having BT turned on on the 520. The issues I see is that it 'seems' to find and connect to all my sensors and then after a few seconds it drops connection with them all. Then intermittently it comes back and disappears. More often than not resulting in no connection to any sensors. Mid ride I've powered off and on the unit, start and stopped it. Now and again it will finally connect to all sensors and work as it should. What I have now found is that if I turn BT off all sensors and the 520 works fine as expected (thats based off of 3 rides with no issues - previously all rides with BT on caused huge issues). So i am growing in confidence its BT related. I am not sure if its standard BT or the BT messages connection that causes the issue. I may be able to pair my phone via only 1 method and test.

I would also note that I am using iOS9 beta. So whether there is a BT issue with iOS9 specifically that causes the 520 to drop all sensors I am not sure. So now I use it with BT turned off.
  • Loobola, I am having the same issue with my Gen 1 PM that was put away till recently.  Was Bluetooth the problem?  Did you have to turn off bluetooth on your phone as well, or just the Garmin 520?

    Thanks
