Strava Route to 520?

I have a fair few Strava routes - can I get these into the 520?
  • Yes you can. Export them from Strava as GPX files. Connect your 520 to your computer and drop the course files into the 'New Files' folder. Disconnect 520 turn off/on, and you'll then see all of your courses on the Garmin.

How do you get them into Garmin Connect without connecting your Garmin to the PC? As I can't connect my Garmin to my PC at work.

    Thanks - I'll give it a go ;)

I be the same method would work if you download the same file from Strava...then upload it to your courses on connectgarmin.com. Then take your phone and sync it with the 520

AFAIK there isn't any option to import gpx as a course in garmin connect. Do you mean import the gpx as activity, then saves it as course and then deletes it?

What is the best option to use?

    TCX or GPX?

Doesn't work. For both .gpx and .tcx uploading it as an activity it says "X undefined"

I'm agree. I tested some months ago to send courses to my 920xt and didn't work. For that reason I was asking if there is another way to do the gpx import...

    Maps

I upload my courses in GPX and my segments in FIT to the New folder on my Garmin Edge 520.
This works perfect. The only problem I have is that it doesn't show a map. I can see the shape of the route or segment but there is no map.

I followed the following steps on this website: ( http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/05/download-garmin-705800810.html#part-i-downloading-the-maps )

    1) Download the map section of interest per the ‘Part 1: Downloading the Maps’ section (again for the Edge 520, remember to keep it small*: See note at end of this section!).
    2) Plug-in your Garmin Edge 520 to your computer.
    3) Within the \Garmin folder on the Edge 520, you’ll find the gmapbmap.img file (Disc Image File). Make a backup copy of this on your computer for long-term safe keeping.
    4) Within the \Garmin folder on the Edge 520, delete the gmapbmap.img file (after you’ve copied it elsewhere).
    5) Copy the gmapsupp.img map file you downloaded into the \Garmin folder on your Edge 520.
    6) On the Edge 520, rename that map file gmapsupp.img to gmapbmap.img – don’t worry if you can’t see the .IMG extension, just rename it to gmapbmap, like below.

But that doesn't work. Does anyone of you also has this problem or even better knows a solution.

    Thanks.

I made the import of courses as TCX file because this format contains (if used) turn informations. Export them from any source like strava or bikeroutetoaster etc... and then import them into the New Files Folder.

Rays explenation for the replacement of the basemapp with for ex. openstreetmap is simple and it works.

Did you extract the downloaded file from openstreetmaps?
Did you rename the file correctly?
Maybe the file size is too big?
