Questions about 520 vs 510

I've searched around a bit and cannot find answers to these specific questions about the 510 vs 520.

1) Is there a particular reason why Garmin went away from the touch screen 510 and no touch screen on the 520? It seems that touch screen would be better, so I'm wondering why they made the change.

2) I've read that many of the features on the 520 will be available on the 510 thru a software update. Once it's updated, what will be the advantages of the 520 over the 510?

3) Would I be able to transfer profiles and stuff from my 510 over to the 520?

Thanks.

Gary

Would be interested to know as well, there are pretty good deals on used 510s.
  • I can answer question 3. Yes you can copy activity profiles between the 1000, 810, 510 and 520. You need to place them in the Garmin\NewFiles folder of the unit you are importing them to. There may be some changes after the import as not all the same data fields are supported across these units so you will need to check what the Edge does about those data fields.

I have a comment for #1 and sort of #2, now that I have bought the 520. There are some times when a touch screen would be advantageous, but I like the 520 much better, especially when switching data pages while riding. It was always a hassle for me to change pages on the 510. With the 520, it's a breeze. I also don't miss having missed touch presses on the 510 because my fingers are sweaty.

I've owned both of these now, and I would choose the 520, hands down.
