You mean on RWGPS? If you check it, it'll tell you that you need to be a paid member to use that feature.

Yes the 520 will use it. It is just adding another course point prior to the actual course point for the turn.

You may want to think about whether you want both TBT instructions on and course points when riding a course as you could end up getting double turn instructions for the same turn.

The notification before a turn has nothing to do with your 520. All it will do is set the course points notifications "automatically" to a given distance before the turns.
This only works, as you said, if you are a premium member. Otherwise they will be set "on the turn". If you want them to be active before the turn without being a premium member, you have to set/edit each course point individually on RWG. These are then imbedded into the TCX file you can download and are arranged into a list on your 520 and activated if you ride "over" them.

It is a shame that we have to pay a 3rd party site to get advanced turn notifications. Why does garmin have to make navigating a course on the edge 520 with ADVERTISED TURN GUIDANCE (yes it has a option to turn turn guidance on or off and I know it works on "angle of turns" but this is a joke since many turns are not right angle turns) so difficult. Would it be too much to ask garmin to make their course creator insert turn cues with advanced warning? But why do that when we can just spend $500 on a buggy edge 1000, or an edge 810 that constantly turns itself off that was replaced with another edge 810 that constantly turned itself off....

I have done a few rides with the 520 and I must say, I like the unit. it is small, good battery life, screen is easy to read in the sun, but please, we need a way to get turn warnings (audible and visual) BEFORE the turn. It is an easy fix, even if we have to use rwgps to get course points, just make the garmin screen flash and beep 100-200 feet before the course point!

I have bee using the "distance to course point" data field, and this is ok, but the arrow is so small and it is hard to see (it is a white arrow on a white background. A black arrow would be easier to see.) So I see the countdown to the point, but unless I am constantly staring at the unit, it is very easy to miss because there is not alert (beeping / screen flashing)

If anyone know how to make suggestions to garmin where they will actually read (I have never see them reply to these forums), please let me know and I would be happy to send them my suggestions.

I wholeheartedly agree. I just can't understand why Garmin course creator doesn't have this basic feature. It'd probably take all of an hour to implement it.

IMHO course points are not really "advanced turn notifications". They are just pop-ups that are displayed when you ride over them. If you edit them wrong (like saying it's a left turn while it's a right one), it will show the wrong turn notification. Period.
But i agree it should be imbedded into Garmin Connect.
