Has anyone imported the openstreets maps yet. I have had no success. If you have could you answer some questions.
I saw it in another thread (that was titled something unrelated to the maps) but there is a map file to start with, copy it to your computer, and place the openstreet one its place, using it's name. I think that is what I read, I hope to get mine this week, so I haven't tried, but I think that is the short version.
If the basemap is 54MB and it must be replaced by an OSM map, and the 520 has about 50MB free, then can I generate and use an OSM map up to 100 MB? That would overcome most of the problem with only having one map at a time on the Garmin.
DC Rainmaker's updated map installation instructions for the Edge 520 answers my question. A default unit has ~49 MB free and the Garmin world basemap is about the same size, so after deleting it there is almost 100 MB available. The GPS info for 100 hours of riding is about 10 MB, and I usually erase old rides before I get to that point, so the OSM map for Western Oregon of 71 MB should be fine.
