Check out my first activity.
HR drops to 63. The strap is the Garmin HRM-RUN. Less than a year old. Works fine on other garmin devices.
What's going on?
  • First ride with my 520. Same thing. Guess i will try the new swim tri hrm next ride. Has anyone talked to garmin about this? Has anyone tried with a different HRM? I guess the good news is that this is not a one off thing.....and if everyone is experiencing it, Garmin should be more eager to remedy the issue. What HR monitor comes with the 520 Bundle??

Same for me, first ride yesterday and it worked great except for the HR dropouts to 63 BPM quite frequently. Recorded the ride with my Fenix3 and the 520 and average heart rate was 131 and 121, respectively, with the two devices. Interestingly, though, I saw a few similar dropouts to 63 on the fenix3, which I never saw with it before. Far fewer than with the 520, but there were a handful. Very odd.

Were you using the new HRM-3/Run?

Probably the whole moonwalking bear process, it probably always had blips of 63, but you weren't looking for them, and didn't notice them. Look into older history if you can, and see if it happened in the past.

I'm also having problems with my HRM from Wahoo. The 520 won't pair correctly with the Wahoo Tickr. If it does pair it looses connection after 5 seconds. I'm 100% sure the problem isn't the Wahoo Tickr since it worked flawlessly with my 510 and it still works perfectly with other ANT+ or bluetooth devices. I deleted the HRM sensor and now it won't even recognize the Tickr anymore. Has anyone else had similar problems?

I used the new HR monitor (the swim/bike/run model just released...that picks up HR in the water). I did not experience the HR issue popping up 63's. Only difference from this weekend was that I was inside on a trainer vs outside. Will try it outside Friday. Guess thats good news for me...but I doubt everyone will be down for having to buy a new HR monitor. Curious to know which HRM comes in the 520 bundle.
  • Any feedback on when an expected firmware update to fix this? I'm still getting the drops to 63 on my 520. Neither occur on the Fenix3 or Zwift.
  • I got an email from Garmin support today and they kinda confirmed that the HRM-RUN is incompatible with the Garmin Edge 520 and asked me to try a normal HRM belt instead.

So I will try that on the training ride tomorrow.

    Best regards

Can you copy the body of the email so we can see what they said? Thanks!
  • so are they going to fix it or just say its not compatible. Not much good when your doing a Triathlon and want the 520 on the bike and the HRM-RUN for run stats....

That's kinda a pain in the backside... I'm strongly considering buying a 520 for directly controlling a smart-trainer, but don't want to have to buy another HRM, given I already have one for my F3. Will they be fixing this incompatibility?
