First ride. HR drops to specially 63. (HRM-RUN)

Check out my first activity.
HR drops to 63. The strap is the Garmin HRM-RUN. Less than a year old. Works fine on other garmin devices.
What's going on?
  • The 520 is just logging data here, it's almost certainly the strap at fault. It might need tightening, a new battery or just it didn't have a good connection.

    CW
  • Does the strap work simultaneously with other Garmin devices? Perhaps try to record the same activity with both devices to ensure it is the strap or the device (one nice thing about ANT+, the sensor can be recorded by multiple devices at the same time).

I likely agree that if the Edge is paired and picking up a sensor, it is likely the sensor. But anything is possible, thus my test suggestion.

If the base units (non-bundled) ever get shipped to Clever Training I'll try mine out :)

If possible, please retest using the method described by NORD0296.... e.g. with another device to compare hr data.

Also, side note, I've trying to find a home in Frisco for some time now. Hopefully it wont be much longer before I'm terrorizing the streets there myself. Maybe I'll see you around.

Now I'm very conflicted. Compared with 520 and 920. HRM-RUN strap. Please help...

  • Something does not look right on the 520. It could be that GC is processing the data incorrectly.

Could you post both the activity FIT files and I will take a look?

    Sure!
    587828033 is 520 other is 920
  • It looks like the issue might be associated with the HRV data that the HRM-Run is sending. Let me dig a little deeper.

Interesting. Thanks for looking into this.

Interested to see what the conclusions are here...

Maybe just my ignorance, but I would think the HRM-RUN sends the same ANT+ HR messages and data as any normal ANT+ HR strap. True it sends other messages for the RUN features, but isn't the HRV supposed to be the same as any other strap?

Either way I'd agree that it looks like a 520 issue after seeing the "results".

OP: Did you happen to notice the 520 displaying the weird 63 bpm during the activity, or perhaps it only recorded it in the file poorly?

Clever Training estimates base models arriving next week, I'll give mine a go with a few HR straps once received.
