Edge 520 keeps dropping heart rate and cadence sensors (but not speed sensor)

Hi.. I posted this last fall, but never got a response.  Ski season is over and I'm back on the bike again and this annoying issue persistts. Does anyone have any ideas?  Is there a way to wipe the software completely and re download it to see if maybe there is a bug in the software before I just give up and and get a  new computer?
My Edge 520 drops my heart rate and cadence sensor randomly, but generally every few miles (it almost never makes it 10 miles without dropping).  They will both simultaneously just display the --- line.   If I reboot the 520 they are re-connected, but you can imagine its annoying to do this multiple times every ride.

Curiously the speed sensor continues, although perhaps thats the internal GPS, not the the actual sensor, I really don't know.

Any suggestions?  It has the latest software.  Should I try the factory reset?  Should I try reloading the software (and how would I actually do that)?

Or is this some known hardware issue that, like a shorting out antennae, that I can never fix and its just time to get a new computer?

  • Yes, speed is derived from GPS if the speed sensor isn’t active.

Firmware 13.2 has been around for about 3 years, so if the problem has only recently started, it’s probably not the firmware.

Holding the power button down for about 10 sec will soft reset the device. A factory reset will erase all your settings, activity profiles and data screens, so back them up first (search Garmin Edge backup if you need guidance).

You didn’t mention replacing sensor batteries, so do that first.
