all my cycling calorie information from the 520 are at least 200 to 300% over reading. Is there a setting to check this?

I am a very average mountain biker and whenever I use the 520 to track y rides the claries of ridiculously high. (by a factor 0r 2 to three at least)

My Fenix 3 measure a lot more realistically.

It seems as though the 520 calorie setting show kilojoules rather than calories but I do not know how to set this  - doesn't seem that i can..

I took a screenshot of some of my last few activities and onceyou can see that when I use Zwift and the calories info comes directly from the Elite Direto then it would appear to be somewhat more accurate.

  • Are you using a power meter on your regular outdoor rides? The Direto has one built-in which is why you are getting "real" figures based on power.
Calorie estimates based on the algorithm are, frankly, *** (it would say I used more calories to ride the same ride much slower than to ride it fast. The only way that would be true is if it included the calories you would be burning regardless of the activity.)

I have a 520 plus and when I bought Garmin Vector 3s power meter my calorie figures dropped overnight to something around 50% of what they previously were. But at least with a power meter you know pretty accurately how much energy you burned specifically for an activity.
