Sync Failed Message MessageWriteError (message: "exhausted retries")

Hi,

I'm experiencing this problem when syncing Edge 520 and iPhone XS using the latest Garmin Connect iOS app.

I tried resetting the device to default settings, removing all maps and activities to free the space, reinstalling the app. But the issue still exists and sync does not work.

Can you please let me know what I should do to be able to have my Edge automatically synced again after I finish an activity? This used to work in the past, and I haven't done any changes in the app or on the device.

As you can see on the screenshots, I have Forerunner 935 watch, disabled its connection to make sure it does not introduce any troubles with Edge connection.

I'm also wondering where your issue is, since your first post included a screenshot of Garmin Connect for iOS, but your second screenshot is Garmin Express for Mac. Is there anything unusual about your Edge 520? Did you buy directly from Garmin or an authorized reseller? Did you buy it as used or was it refurbished?

I’ve tried to sync my Garmin Edge 520 with my iPhone and Mac, to be able to transfer my activities. Non of that worked, I posted both issues to this thread.
I bought this device from an official reseller bol.com in the Netherlands.
I am going to try to sync using a Windows laptop and let you know if that works.

Same issue for me on my Fenix 5X! It's been two months now and getting very frustrating. I've noticed it's every time I record an activity and the only fix is to crash the app, disconnect on the watch, and reconnect both which isn't really convenient but I keep missing important notifications. I've tried connected to the computer to remove corrupt files andwith no luck as well as the usual on/off, reset.

I got the following response from Garmin support:

Our software team has determined that your Edge would need to be exchanged. I apologize for that. As this device is no longer under warranty there would be a fee associated with an exchange. The fee for an Edge 520 is $110.00. The standard method is, you would send the device to us first. Once we receive it your replacement device should arrive in about 10-14 business days. Is this time frame going to work out for you? Note, the exchange will be for a newly overhauled device.

In the past 3 months there have been a few updates. Are none of your activities syncing? Getting the same error message? Have you tried a manual upload to Garmin Connect Web to see if there is an issue with the .fit file?

HI everyone. I had this problem on my 935 this morning. I remembered that i had uploaded to the latest garmin connect app on my phone without restarting my phone. restarted my phone and synced straight away. Hope it works for you

I just turned off the Bluetooth on my iPhone and turned it on again. Vola! It started to sync again. Problem solved.
