Sync problems with Garmin Connect via Bluetooth

I'm having troubles syncing my Edge 520 Plus with Garmin Connect on my iPhone. I can see the Garmin in the device list on Garmin Connect, but there is a red exclamation point instead of a "sync now" symbol. When I click on this symbol, it says "Sync Failed, FileTransferError timeout". My Forerunner 35 works fine with Garmin Connect on my phone via Bluetooth. I'm running software v5.60 on my 520 Plus and iOS 13.7 on my iPhone 7 with Garmin Connect v4.34.3.1. The issue seems to have started about a week ago. I have confirmed that my 520 Plus is paired with my phone via Bluetooth. I've tried restarting my 520 Plus and phone. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling my 520 Plus in Garmin Connect on my phone. I can sync it without any problems through Garmin Express on my PC via USB.

  • I'm having the same issue. I've tried all the normal things, like unpairing/repairing reinstalling software etc, but am still getting this error. It's really annoying and won't allow me to add routes.

Yup me too. Will not sync. Latest version of Garmin, reinstalled, iOS 13.7, (didn’t work on 13.6 either) and Garmin is on 12.1

Me too. About time to throw garmin in garbage can and get a Wahoo.

  • I spent about 4 hours on tech support today with someone named Nicholas. Most of the time, I was waiting for him to respond to my questions. I'm posting back to the forums because it doesn't seem like anyone from Garmin monitors the forums to provide support. Hopefully this information will help others solve their problems. I believe my problems may have begun with the installation of iOS 13.6.1, but that may have been a coincidence. What finally seems to have fixed the problem were the steps below:

    1. In the Edge 520 Plus (Edge) device, go to Menu>Settings>Phone and select the phone and forget it
    2. Still under the phone menu, disable pairing on the Edge
    3. Power off the Edge
    4. In the Garmin Connect mobile app (GCM) go to More>Garmin Devices and click on each Garmin device and click on the three dots in the top right corner and remove the device. I couldn't remove the Edge since it wasn't properly paired to begin with.
    5. In GCM go to More>Settings>Sign Out.
    6. On the iPhone go to Settings>Bluetooth and click on the "i" next to every Garmin device you have paired and forget the device.
    7. Turn Bluetooth off on your phone.
    8. Delete GCM from your phone.
    9. Reboot the phone by holding down the volume down button and power button at the same time. This is for an iPhone 7. The process is different for other iPhones.
    10. Have Garmin remove all your devices from your account. I think you can do this yourself by going to Garmin Connect on the web and clicking on the watch logo in the top right corner of the screen, click on "Device Settings" for each device listed and click on the gear logo and select "Remove". I happened to have a few old devices listed in my account that I wasn't using anymore. I don't know if these were causing problems.
    11. Reinstall GCM on your phone. Accept the prompts to to enable Bluetooth on your phone and allow it to access Bluetooth.
    12. Sign into GCM.
    13. Click on More>Garmin Devices>Add Device>Browse all compatible devices>Edge>Edge 520 Plus>Start
    14. A menu will pop up asking you to select an accessory
    15. On your Edge, go to Menu>Settings>Phone and enable pairing
    16. After a minute, it should show up on the list. It should then prompt you to pair the device via Bluetooth on the phone.
    17. It then went through a bunch of initial setup questions and prompted me to connect Strava, update emergency contacts, and setup LiveTrack. These all seemed to be setup already so you can skip this step.
