Accidentally Recorded an Outdoor Ride as Indoor - Can this be salvaged in terms of Strava?

i've just been out for a big ride, have saved the ride to Garmin Connect, synced it to Strava only to then realise that I had the Garmin on indoor mode (idiot!), so no segments are coming up on Strava.

I didn't realise anything was amiss when I was out on the ride because directions were coming up as normal and all of the usual metrics were showing up normally.

Thing is, even though I clearly ballsed it up, the ride on Garmin Connect has a map showing the exact route i just rode, so  the device clearly knows that it's been out on the actual road.

Is there any way to salvage this so that the GPS data can be unlocked and uploaded to strava so I can see segment details or is this not possible?

Thanks!

The same happened to me and I have not been able to solve it either. If anyone can help with this would be very helpful

  • Interesting that it didn't get sent to Strava with the map considering you say its showing up on GC. Leads me to think that it wasn't recorded on indoor mode as GPS would be switched off in that mode.

Regardless, you can get this on to Strava by downloading the GPX file from the web version of GC and then uploading it to Strava via the import activity option. It's quite straightforward.

It was on indoor mode hence the gps was turned off.. the map won't appear on GC, only the trainning info (HR, speed, power... etc)

  • You seem to be a different case to the OP then as he had a GPS track in Garmin Connect. If your device didn't record a GPS track there is no way to recreate one after the fact.
