Edge has stopped charging

Hi,

My Edge just won't charge now. No response when using a variety of leads and plug points. It is less than 10% battery so will die soon.

Does anyone have any ideas? Or am I looking at buying another? It is 3 or 4 years old now.

Thanks to anyone who replies!

Mine has done exactly the same. For a few weeks I have had to be careful about how I plugged it in to ensure that it charged. Now it won't charge are at all. This is the 2nd time this has happened and last time Garmin refused to accept the fault as warranty and I paid to have the power port replaced. Was annoyed with Garmin attitude - it was my fault that the port broke, yeah right. Interested to know if same problem on other Garmin such as 830 or 530 as that might push me to Wahoo,

  • are you using the same cable you have always used? There are data and power cables and if you use a power cable it will not transfer data.

Yes, same cable.  It was 'dodgy' for a month os so and has now stopped charging.  I'm 100% convinced it's the same problem as last time, so my enthusiasm to get it repaired and have to do it again when the new one fails this time next year is zero.  Wahoo here I come:)

  • Exactly the same problem. The charging port feels loose now (3-4 years of use) and charging is increasingly inconsistent. Very, very annoying for such a pricey product. What a waste.

Yep, I have gone to Wahoo.  Last time the same thing hapened, Garmin made me pay for the port to be replaced and told me that I didn't have the skills to correctly plug in a Micro USB cable into their device.  I wasn't going to give them a second opportunity to rob me.

  • It's unfortunate, however this is a problem of literally ALL of the connectors more or less. Pretty much any disconnectable contact suffers from wear. Even more when there some kind of lateral pressure, the contacts wear even faster as well as overall condition of the whole connector gets worse.

This is regardless of the price of the product. Tho one would expect the higher the price is the longer the connector should live.

Micro USB generally suffers from this kind of wear. Thus came USB Type C which brought a lot of improvement. Unless Garmin decides to use this newer connector, we will experience micro USB connector to die over time.

Totally agree.  I was very disappointed the first time that it happened and Garmin wouldn't accept it as a warranty issue as it was within 12 months of purchase.  They use an item that is not fit for purpose, ie the Micro USB, and then not accept failure in the warranty period as their responsibility.  They caught me once, I wasn't going to be caught again, which would just set me up for a 3rd, 4th and 5th failure of the Micro USB.

  • My Garmin stopped charging and nothing is working to get it powered on.
