My garmin edge 520 has not uploaded my ride

Hi Everyone,

this is my first time on this forum.

I have an older Garmin Edge 520 from 2016.

It has the latest firmware version 13.

As of 4 weeks ago, I have been loosing my ride's data.

In other words, when I finish my ride, press the button to stop my ride then press the save button, the ride is not uploaded to strava or garmin connect. It stays in the device.

I connected the device to my windows 10 desktop computer and have copied the fit file from the activities folder.

When I manually import this file to garmin connect I get the following error:

We don't support the file type you tried to import.

This makes me think it is a corrupt file.

Therefore I tried the online site called http://garmin.kiesewetter.nl/, but when I try to convert the file to autofix file, I get the following error:

Upload status: The file could not be uploaded. The following error occured: The process cannot access the file 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot\localuser\garmin.kiesewetter.nl\loadup\2020-05-07-12-04-51.fit' because it is being used by another process.

I think this site might not be working properly.

I also tried to convert to csv file, but I get this:

[IOException: The process cannot access the file 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot\localuser\garmin.kiesewetter.nl\loadup\2020-05-07-12-04-51.fit' because it is being used by another process.]

   System.Web.UI.Page.RaisePostBackEvent(NameValueCollection postData) +35
   System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) +1639

Therefore I downloaded  and tried to run the fit file repair tool by launching the Microsoft access repairfitfile.accdr.

It does try to repair it, but since it is demo version it will fill in a lot of field with dummy values.

Is there anyone out there that can help me fix this file?

Thank you.

Best regards

Alfred

    hi Alfred, sorry to hear about your mishap

    It does try to repair it, but since it is demo version it will fill in a lot of field with dummy values.

    is the fit file not important enough to spend money on the repair

    Hi OnlyTwo,

    I used the demo FitFileRepairTool to fix my fit file and create a  2020-05-07-12-04-51-fixed.fit which I imported to garmin connect to see if it worked.

    The ride was loaded but the map was totally screwed.

    It showed that a straight line going from Melbourne Australia to the US.

    If I purchase the license for this program then how do I know that the map is going to be correct?

    Will it show my ride route?

    Thank you.

    If I purchase the license for this program then how do I know that the map is going to be correct?

    Hi OnlyTwo,

    sorry for misunderstanding your first answer.

    You are a genius, you made my day! ThumbsupClap

    Thank you very very much.

    I am considering getting a Garmin Edge 530 since my Garmin Edge 520 has been corrupting these files for the last 4 weeks. I have factory reset it twice, but it is still playing up.

    Best regards

    Hi OnlyTwo,

    I do not have to many fit files at all, because this unit was totally reformatted and factory reset 2 weeks ago.

    These are my storage stats for my 2016 Garmin Edge 520 (software v13) :

     Total storage --> 105MB

    Used space --> 2.31MB
    Free space --> 102MB
    Number of activities --> 10
    Fit files used storage --> 923kb

    It must be faulty
