Edge 520 - Livetrack has no data

The last couple of rides, my Livetrack feed has had no data.  When I start the ride, I get the "Livetrack Started" message on my 520, my wife gets the email link and all that, but there is no data coming in at all (she gets some sort of "no location data" type of error).

When I stop the ride, I get a  message saying that LIvetrack has ended but it seems to not actually close the stream.  I end up having to stop the livetrack on my cellphone (Samsung s9).  Nothing has changed on the phone or GPS in months.

The activity file in Garment Connect has all the data and looks normal, the livetrack map is just a map of the general area with no data or tracking on it at all.

Any ideas?

  • I received a response from Garmin today and they said that the new Garmin Connect version 4.31 is supposed to fix this problem.  From what I see above we have one member who has tried it and says it is not working with the new version.  Has anyone else given it a try?

  • 4.31 does not fix it.    I tried.     Very frustrating.   I had to find an APK for 4.29 and sideload it onto my phone.   Not the way I want to do things, but at  least it works now.

  • If you go to googleplay, several users still complain that 4.31 doesn't work anymore. As the updates bring nothing new for me, I stay at 4.29 and I keep my energies to roll

Having a forerunner 35 watch, the livetrack service worked before but now it no longer works despite the latest shift. This functionality is very practical and it is for this reason that I bought this watch. When will we return the livetrack which worked please?

Recurring bug, live track no longer works. Once a year Garmin releases a version of its application which causes the livetrack to be bugged. This time the new version does not solve the problem

  • I have an Edge 520plus on the latest Android on a OnePlus 6. GCM 4.30 worked fine for me, but since 4.31, Livetrack is broken for me.

  • Yes, I gave it a try - without success... Disappointed

    App-Version: 4.31
    Edge-Version: 13.10

  • Same issue here.   4.30 broke it and, sadly, 4.31 did not fix it.    Deleted the app and side-loaded the 4.29 APK version.    Now it works.    Sure wish I didn't have to do that.

One would think that a company like Garmin would have some standard testing protocols for their apps before they rush them out the door, but apparently not!   That kind of tells you a lot about Garmin.   I'm disappointed.

  • I received the following email from Garmin Product Support this afternoon.....

"We're following up on reports we received of two distinct error messages LiveTrack recipients have received; "Page will update automatically when location data is available" or "No signal. Trying to reconnect." We're pleased to announce that with version 4.31 of the Connect app, which was released to the Google Play and Apple App stores, we resolved some of the potential causes for these two error messages. Please let us know through https://support.garmin.com/ if after updating to version 4.31 of the Connect app your recipients get a similar error message or if you have any other issues."

.... I have sent another email asking them to look at this forum.  If they did they would see that what they are suggesting is not working.  This has been over a month!!

  • I just followed up on the ticket I opened. The woman who is helping shared that it is a different group that monitors the forums. I asked her to escalate me ticket and she said she'd follow through. I would encourage EVERYONE who has this issue to write a ticket to [email protected]. The more users that flag this as an issue the higher chance we have of getting this fixed.

It's definitely something wrong with the Edge 520 firmware or with something that is sitting in a layer between the Edge and Connect software.

I have two Garmin devices: Edge 520 and Fr945. The Fr945 works flawlessly in LiveTrack mode and all my contacts can track me when I on the road. The Edge 520 worked well too, but a month or two ago something was broken in firmware and I have the same problem, as most people in this thread.

The same phone, same Connect app, same account! Fr945 working well. Edge520 send no updates for tracking data :(

  • The Problem has not been resolved with Version 4.31.   I've only tried this once, but with Live Track enabled and set to extend viewing for 24 hours...  it did not send an email alert to my 1 recipient. I don't remember seeing an alert on the 520 that Live Track was enabled.  I have been working with someone at Garmin through emails but we still seem to be getting nowhere.  The problems I am experiencing with 4.31 are the same as with 4.30.  I am reverting back to 4.29 today.

It does seem that there is some sort of disconnect between customer service and the software developers.  I think if they could just get together we might have an answer sooner than later.  They are probably just sending problem tickets back and forth without actually speaking to one another.  The problem is clear and it has been documented by many here in this thread.   Again, for now it's version 4.29 and I'm staying there.

    Sorry Garmin
