Strava Live Segments Issue

Hi,

I am having an issue with getting Strava Live Segments to sync to my Garmin Edge 520. I have tried multiple steps to get this to work but still having no joy. My segments were previously syncing but now will not sync.

What I have tried so far:

1. Deleted all segments from Strava, then tried resyncing with new Strava segments - did not work

2. Switched from Strava segments to Garmin segments then back to Strava segments on both my phone and via Garmin Express - did not work

3. I have even tried resetting the whole device but this still did not work.

My Garmin is using the latest software - Version 13.00. Is there any other suggestions to what I could try? The only thing I could think of would to be to try to install a previous version of the Garmin Software.

  • Go to web strava.com, click od My Segments in menu and turn on popular segment. You need sync Edge by cable and PC app's Connect.

    Yes I have tried this and from the PC app. The feature is not working properly.

    Is this a garmin or strava error? I have tried master resetting the garmin and clearing all the files, wierdly now I can only add segments that I have never starred before on Strava, however all my previous segments will still not sync.

    I am here because both the 520 and 520+ are not accepting all the segments I have chosen. I have deleted all star segments and restarted the computer. When I add segments to my Strava segments list they appear in Connect. However, only half show up on the 520 and the same ones on the 520+. There appears to be a problem between the Garmin Devices and Garmin Connect since Strava handed the segments off to Connect. VERY FRUSTRATING. This happened about a year ago and someone inside fixed it.

    I have exactly the same issue and suspect it's not only for segments but for other items as well. Can you upload workouts from Connect to garmin device? I get a sync error. Had this issue for about a year, thought it was only my device but looks like it's common problem.

    About a year ago when this happened, support instructed me to connect my 520 via USB and delete the folders Activities, NewFiles, Segments and Segments List along with any BAK files.  That didn't help as the problem continued. It appears the same problem exists again but this time I have uninstalled Garmin Express, rebooted, and re-installed Garmin Express. The Garmin Connect shows I have 14 segments, like Strava does. However before connecting devices (520 and 520+), Garmin Express shows I have items to install for both devices. Unfortunately only 8 of the 14 segments (same exact segments for both devices) are listed in "View Details" and the remaining segments are ignored as listed in the Garmin Connect segments list.  I removed the accepted segments in an attempt to force the system to give me only the remaining rejected segments, but some filter or criteria that I can't control prevents those stubborn segments from getting released from Connect to Garmin Express. It's clearly a Garmin issue.

  • One thing you may want to check is the average grade on the segments that don't load. Strava have tightened their policy on not allowing downhill segments to be exported.  This can exclude segments that have an average of 0%.

    Most of my segments range from -5 to -17%. Do you know why they’ve stopped exporting these ?
