Wrong Time and No GPS

Former Member
Former Member

Since 2 weeks my Edge 520 started loosing GPS signals during rides and now it cannot find any GPS signal anymore and it displays wrong time (-7 hrs). I tried everything that was posted here including deleting/changing time zone file and even erasing everything by formatting the memory. So far nothings seems to help. Is there anything left I can try?

  • What time zone are you in, is the time shown GMT/UTC?

If so it likely an issue with time zone map.

Try manually replacing it by putting this file in the Garmin folder and then getting a GPS lock.

I am in GMT+1 (Amsterdam) but the displayed time is - 7 Hr. I tried replacing this file already without succes. Is the wrong time the cause of not getting a GPS lock?

  • You certainly need to get a GPS lock.

Make sure auto power off is off and place the unit where it can get a good view of the sky and leave it on in that position for 15 minutes.

If you look on the about page what does it show for the GPS version. Not this is different from the unit software.

It shows GPS version 3.3. And after 20min still no GPS lock...

  • Sounds like something is wrong with the GPS. It is on? Are using an indoor profile where the GPS is off?

Yes and No Smirk. I also suspect something is wrong with GPS. I did had some rides though this week where it seemd it did get  GPS lock for while.

  • Try re-installing the GPS the software by plainsong this file in the Garmin\RemoteSW folder

    Stil no l(o)(u)ck.

  • I am having a similar problem, and maybe that is just how the Garmin Edge 520 is, but I hate this.

As soon as I lose satellite, which is often as it is hot here and I look for shade, the time reverts to 6:59 PM. I have is connect with my phone. I did a factory reset, and it was off by an hour with satellite. I found this thread and put the tz.img file on the phone. Though YAY! Went out in the blazing sun to test it and it reads the temp okay... 100°, but the time says 6:59pm. It is actually 2:20pm. And I noticed yesterday that it always in the 6 to 7pm range when I lose the GPS.

This is a friend's garmin he is letting me try out and possibly buy. Is there something wrong with it? Or can I resolve this? I REALLY want to see an accurate time of day.

    Thanks!
  • Try connecting to Garmin Express to update the unit with the latest timezone map etc
