520 Maps not Loading

My 520, which 4/5 years old now, struggles to show the map when on the map page.

When I've downloaded a .fit file from, ridewithgps premium account and then ride the course i've downloaded it does give turn by turn alerts but I cannot see the map.

The page has the arrow at the top but most of the time, not all, the map doesn't load up, so at some junctions or when there is a lag with the alert, i can go off course and it's hard to follow.

Seems to happen when i have the standard gps and the gps with glosnass,

Any tips to improve this pls.

  • - Be sure you only have at most 5 to 8 activities in Garmin/Activities (do not archive activities on the 520);

    - Best to have as few Courses as possible loaded on the 520 in Garmin/Courses;

    - If using a Mac, be sure to clear Trash;

    - Are you using Garmin maps or OpenStreetMap (as described by DCRainmaker), if OpenStreetMap then it might help to get a fresh map download and specify only the map tiles (regions) you actually use.

    Thank you.

    When you say activities - do you mean my activity profiles?

  • Your rides are recorded and saved into files on the 520 with names like 2019-11-19-09-05-50.fit  These can be viewed when the 520 is mounted as a usb harddrive (e.g. D:) in the directory D:/Garmin/Activities/

    Arh! I had 198 rides in there. I've deleted them - hopefully that will sort it. Thanks for your patience and help.
