Intervals during mid-ride ?

I've searched the forum and there does not seem to be an answer, or at least one I can understand, so I would like to ask again ...

I have created an Interval routine.  For now let's just say it's 4 x 3min exertion with 30sec of rest between each interval.  I would like to do either 1, 2 or 3 of these intervals during a 1 hour recorded ride.  I see that the intervals can be accessed from the lap button but when the interval is complete it seems to save the ride.  I do not want to end the ride at the end of the interval.  I would like to ensure that the data from my ride remains intact while being able to do this interval training mid-ride.  I've been sitting here playing around with these features but cannot seem to discern a user friendly solution.

Will there be a different approach depending on whether I want to do 1,2, or 3 intervals mid-ride?

  • Add an extra step to the end of workout that is continue until lap press. Set your workout up for 3 reps, if you only want to to do 2 you can just press the lap button to skip the third.

  • I did some more research and it appears that I need to have an "open ended" warm-up and cool-down component to the Interval. Those choices are in the Interval setup page. No problem there.

    1. When your interval workout has a warm up, select lap button to begin the first interval
    2. Follow the on-screen instructions.

When you complete all of the intervals, a message appears

I guess I'm going to have to get out on the bike and try this first hand.  So from my understanding...  I create an interval with both and open ended warm-up and cool down.  Once that is created I just begin my ride start the 520.  When I get to the point where I want to start my interval training I press the lap button.  Since it's open ended I'm assuming the 520 continues with it's ride recording data.  I'll try this out tomorrow.
