Help with corrupt fit file

Former Member
Former Member
Might as well start a thread for this like they have over in the 500 forum.

I've only had my 520 for a week, and I really like it. The only issues I've had so far are that sometimes the bluetooth requires me to restart on the device to work properly, and then tonights FIT file is really corrupt so I can't load it over to strava.

The online FIT tool doesn't fix it, and then I opened it in golden cheetah. It seems the timestamps are all whacky, where it should be increasing every second, but it looks like the stamps are becoming integer overflows. The data is there, I just don't know of a way to edit all of the timestamps by just setting them as monotonically increasing seconds after they start getting corrupt in the file.

Any ideas?

    Hello Neil,

There is no track data in that file, only file headers and device info.

    Hello Neil,

No idea....but you might explore the drive on your 500 and see if there are any stray files (DAT or FIT or TCX or GPX or ???) somewhere.

One of them might be your ride.

    Hello 8CPLUS,

The first 6 points were corrupt (speeds up to 111mph) so I deleted them.

You might have started running before the 520 got a good satellite lock??

Anyway....fixed with the Fit File Repair Tool.

    thanx a lot!!! :)
I've started running after the edge 520 told me that satelite reception was ok, green bars all the way!
Today it happened again, but today I was about 5 min stoped after I've got a good satelite reception, talking with run mates until I started running.

Edge 500 never gave me any errors in 4 years of use... :(

    Hello Brainstorm,

That file is not corrupt. There are only 17kms of track data recorded. The rest of the data is missing. There is no data to fix....sorry.

    Corrupted Fit File

    Hi All,

I have attached my corrupted fit file with the hope that someone could fix it up for me. Not sure what he issue was however it looks like it all went a bit pear shaped at the half way mark.
