Help with corrupt fit file

Might as well start a thread for this like they have over in the 500 forum.

I've only had my 520 for a week, and I really like it. The only issues I've had so far are that sometimes the bluetooth requires me to restart on the device to work properly, and then tonights FIT file is really corrupt so I can't load it over to strava.

The online FIT tool doesn't fix it, and then I opened it in golden cheetah. It seems the timestamps are all whacky, where it should be increasing every second, but it looks like the stamps are becoming integer overflows. The data is there, I just don't know of a way to edit all of the timestamps by just setting them as monotonically increasing seconds after they start getting corrupt in the file.

Any ideas?

Would anyone be able to fix the attached file? It looks like it has jumped 4 years ahead.

I see the 4 years but what about the rest??

Right now the file shows the start time to be April 6, 2015 at 7:01PM. Is that correct?

Would someone please take a look at this file? From what I can tell there is a time stamp error making the ride end in August of next year. Can't seem to fix it though. My wife worked hard on this ride and it would be a shame if she lost it. Thanks!

    Hello Tim,

That 500 was having a really bad day. The coords are all over the map like it could not get a good lock. The track plots way off the existing roads and out into the trees.
In many places it failed to record data for 2-3 minutes at a time. At the 12.5 mile mark it lost satellites completely for 16 minutes and that buggered the date. That 16min and all the other 2-3min gaps will show up as straight lines on the map and graphs when viewing the basic fixed file.

The HR values are very high. The strap was not making good contact or maybe it needs a new battery?

I made 2 files. Both will load into Connect at the same time so you can compare and keep whatever you want. The distance on my new track is almost the same as the original distance and I kept the original speeds. The big difference is the overall track location except for the start and end pieces. They do not look very good but I have no way to know how to correct those 2 short pieces so they are in the original location.

"2015-10-03-08-39-03-fixed.fit" is the basic fix with only the dates repaired. Zoom up in Connect and you will see how bad the track is.

"2015-10-03-08-39-04-Track-fixed.fit" has the track repaired using a route following the roads as they appear in my software, the elevations are repaired using the digital elevations in the Tool and the calories are based on the generic 40 calories per mile. Zoom up in Connect and you will see that the track follows the roads in most places. Obviously my software roads are not totally the same as Connect but still much better than the original track. Check out all 3 map layers in Connect, Google, Bing and Satellite.

So....here ya go. 2 files fixed with the Fit File Repair Tool.

    Help w/ Corrupt Fit File

Went for a ride yesterday and the 520 went wacky for about 15sec when riding under some high tension powerlines. During that time, the device indicated it lost satellite connection and the time jumped a couple hours before reconnecting.

My 520 shows the data intact, but upon import into Garmin Connect and Strava is where I am having issues. Tried fixing it with Strava's link to FIT File Tools but it only saved half of my ride (up to where the 520 lost connection). Garmin Connect shows the full ride, but no stats. Hoping someone can take a look to see if they can recover the full ride.

  • Can someone fix my TCX?

    Hello

When riding today, my garmin edge 605 suddenly went black screen. When powering it on again, I could ride again with no loss of miles or time. But when synchronizing garmin express it says my TCX files are corrupted. Can someone look if the files can be fixed? Thanks a lot!

Thanks DATEZZ! Uploaded the file and the full ride is there. Very excited that my effort on a local climb was not lost - In fact it cracked the top 10 list! Thanks for taking the time to fix.

    Hello 8CPLUS,

The first 6 points were corrupt (speeds up to 111mph) so I deleted them.

You might have started running before the 520 got a good satellite lock??

Anyway....fixed with the Fit File Repair Tool.

    help!

    hi all

After a bit of a disaster this morning and forgetting to reset my device after a ride, it now shows as a nil activity. Unfortunately I have tried to repair it to no avail.

Could I ask for some help in having the file repaired?
