Help with corrupt fit file

Former Member
Former Member
Might as well start a thread for this like they have over in the 500 forum.

I've only had my 520 for a week, and I really like it. The only issues I've had so far are that sometimes the bluetooth requires me to restart on the device to work properly, and then tonights FIT file is really corrupt so I can't load it over to strava.

The online FIT tool doesn't fix it, and then I opened it in golden cheetah. It seems the timestamps are all whacky, where it should be increasing every second, but it looks like the stamps are becoming integer overflows. The data is there, I just don't know of a way to edit all of the timestamps by just setting them as monotonically increasing seconds after they start getting corrupt in the file.

Any ideas?

    hi NeilAlexHarris,

The file contains no data records at all, there is nothing salvageable.

How many completed rides are stored on your device? I would look at backing them to my computer and then deleting them off your device.

If that fails to work then I would be looking at doing a Master Reset on the device.

    cheers

    Thanks

    hi Swagman,

The file does only contain data records for 73km - the rest of the ride just isn't there.

Give this file a try - it should now upload to GC.

    cheers

    Mike,

thanks for your help that uploaded to Connect,

    cheers,

    hi Nico,

FFRT reports that your file is 100% corrupt. There is nothing that can be done with it.

    cheers

    Hi,

Thank you for your prompt response.

An idea for this not to happen again? The file was corrupted when synchronizing with garmin connect before I could access the file. Now I see the file on the edge 520 with kms and time but I can no longer access the summary of the last activity.

    Hi Mike

87 completed rided are stored on my device edge 520 (16.7mo). i will delete 50% after copying them on my computer and i have made soft reset of edge 520. I will make another ride tomorrow and i will see if it works.

How much rides can i store on my edge 520 ? Because i have not received any warning messages about storage.

    Thank you.

    Best regards
  • Hi, I'm seeing some strange things in Strava after a fast group ride tonight. Could someone check this file and see if there is some corruption?

    hi 2nfinite,

    Can you define 'strange things'?

I'm not seeing any corruption in the file.

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for looking, its a Strava problem and its happened before to me on the final sprint of the group ride (and another 0.25 mile segment).

The Strava overview shows the segment at 28.9mph (wrong):

But if you analyze the segment it shows average speed of 30.4mph (correct):

You know Strava is screwing up when a guy that was next to me is now #2 on leaderboard at 37.5mph but when you analyze his segment the average is 30.5mph.

Not a big deal, training is focused on longer segments where Strava does a very good job of allowing me to compare efforts (power/HR).
