Help with corrupt fit file

Might as well start a thread for this like they have over in the 500 forum.

I've only had my 520 for a week, and I really like it. The only issues I've had so far are that sometimes the bluetooth requires me to restart on the device to work properly, and then tonights FIT file is really corrupt so I can't load it over to strava.

The online FIT tool doesn't fix it, and then I opened it in golden cheetah. It seems the timestamps are all whacky, where it should be increasing every second, but it looks like the stamps are becoming integer overflows. The data is there, I just don't know of a way to edit all of the timestamps by just setting them as monotonically increasing seconds after they start getting corrupt in the file.

Any ideas?

  • Bad fit file

I have a corrupt fit file from ride today. Nothing I have will import it. Any ideas what to try?
    Thanks.

    Hi Brad,

You had a small amount of corrupted data towards the start of the file.

    Give this file a try.

    cheers

  • That works!

    Thanks Mike!
Appreciate the quick work you did on this.

I've done 43k ride with my Edge 520. Saved it at the end as always. Everything seemed alright, turned Edge off.
Few hours later trying to upload it to Strava I got "unrecognized file type" message.
Looked it up and by the filesize it was too small for 2 hour ride. None of the repair tools I have seems to be able to open it.
I can see it in my "rides" directory on Edge (displays correctly the date, distance etc.), but I can't load it on Edge to see the details.
Kind of accepted the fact that it's corrupted probably beyond repair, it was not so important ride, but can someone look at it?
And maybe confirm what actually happened, because I don't want that to happen with some really important ride (like a race).

I couldn't upload it through the forum (for some reason the upload fails everytime), but I put it on my website: 2017-03-07-12-47-48.fit
It is exactly the file that is saved today on my Edge520.

    hi tmtkview,

Need to have the actual .fit file from your 520 - the file you upload is of no use. Get yourself a free Dropbox account, upload the file to there and then share the link to it in a reply to this message - I can then see if there is anything that can be done with it.

    cheers

That is exactly the file that was saved on my Edge520.
It won't probably change anything, but here's the dropbox link:

    hi tmtkview,

Unfortunately, FFRT reports the file as totally corrupt. There is nothing that can be done with it.

    cheers

Help with a FIT file please.

Hi, I did an 88km ride but the FIT file when uploaded to Strava show only the first 73km saying the rest of the file is corrupt. It won't load at all to Connect. I would appreciate it if someone could help, thanks swagman.

Another one.... these are getting more frequent...

Hi guys - could someone take a look at the following fit file and see if it is salvageable? This is probably my 3rd corrupt file in 3 weeks... any tips for preventing this from happening or is it just bad luck?

    hi Swagman,

The file does only contain data records for 73km - the rest of the ride just isn't there.

Give this file a try - it should now upload to GC.

    cheers
