Help with corrupt fit file

Might as well start a thread for this like they have over in the 500 forum.

I've only had my 520 for a week, and I really like it. The only issues I've had so far are that sometimes the bluetooth requires me to restart on the device to work properly, and then tonights FIT file is really corrupt so I can't load it over to strava.

The online FIT tool doesn't fix it, and then I opened it in golden cheetah. It seems the timestamps are all whacky, where it should be increasing every second, but it looks like the stamps are becoming integer overflows. The data is there, I just don't know of a way to edit all of the timestamps by just setting them as monotonically increasing seconds after they start getting corrupt in the file.

Any ideas?

  • Thanks but it seems the online tools is more to combine (append) two files in case you resetted your GPS mid-course or switched device....

I just came back from vacation where I tried to run in every city I visited as some kind of diary of my trip. Upon uploading I came to realize that the GPS data from the biggest city is missing, I have HR, elevation, distance etc... But not the GPS coordinate which are used to make the beautiful map to remember where i went. Fortunately though i was able to remember the course and was able to create a GPX file as a course in garmin connect but can't find a way to merge this GPX data with the file from the run. So I have good the GPS data (13293796.gpx.xml), and a .fit or .tcx (1300547441.fit or the TCX with the same number) file with all other data, how can I merge the 2 to repair my broken file and complete my travel diary?

Anyone can help me with that?

    Thanks

    Hello GMhx,

Here ya go. Added the coordinates from your GPX file to the FIT file using the fabulous Fit File Repair Tool.

Maybe I should have linked directly to it but was it not possible to follow the link in my previous post, and then on that page further on to this one - http://gotoes.org/strava/Merge_Heart_Rate_TCX_With_Position_TCX.php? Combine Heart Rate Files with TCX Tracks.

This sounds very much like that you were after (haven't tested myself though).

Thanks exactly what I wanted. Much appreciated, I wish this tools was available on mac...

Thanks, I'll try that in case it happens again in the future. I saw the tool on the website but though it would need timestamp on the HR and GPS to match in order to work, and since the GPS was traced on Garmin Connect there's no timestamp to match the HR. I'll try it nonetheless...Thanks for your help.
  • Maybe you're right. Now when I think about it that does sound logical, that the functionality is more aimed at merging two recorded activities rather than just adding a track - having time stamps in both files would perhaps be a necessity to merge them correctly.

Let me know how it works out, if you give it a try - might want to use it myself in the future. :o

  • Corrupt FIT file ... unlit FIT repair tool won't convert?

    Howdy y'all,

This file seems to have a lot of data (800k) and displays some of the ride on garminconnect... however I can't import to Golden Cheetah or Strava or other services. The online FIT repair site doesnt ever finish converting the FIT file. It was a tough ride and I would love to see my data. Can anyone help?

    Thanks!
