Help with corrupt fit file

Former Member
Former Member
Might as well start a thread for this like they have over in the 500 forum.

I've only had my 520 for a week, and I really like it. The only issues I've had so far are that sometimes the bluetooth requires me to restart on the device to work properly, and then tonights FIT file is really corrupt so I can't load it over to strava.

The online FIT tool doesn't fix it, and then I opened it in golden cheetah. It seems the timestamps are all whacky, where it should be increasing every second, but it looks like the stamps are becoming integer overflows. The data is there, I just don't know of a way to edit all of the timestamps by just setting them as monotonically increasing seconds after they start getting corrupt in the file.

Any ideas?

  • Good morning Don,

Just a follow up question. Garmin connect seems to have started averaging time stopped into the moving average.
    https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1234276585

It seems to have averaged time stopped into my total moving time. This is the first time it has done this. I had the auto pause when stopped set to on. What would cause this, and is it a problem in GC or a setting on the 520.

As luck would have it, I recorded this same ride with my Forerunner 235. It exhibits the same characteristics in GC with regards to averaging in the time stopped with moving average. This leads me to believe the problem is with GC. But if the issue is with GC, why isn't everyone complaining about this problem? As an aside, this is the first activity I've recorded on the 235 since updating to software version 4.7.

    Thanks

    Hello Tom,

Ya Connect has the speeds backwards  it is amazing the things that get screwed up on that website.
The avg speed of 17.2 is actually the avg moving speed without the stops and breaks etc.
Maybe they will fix it someday??

    Hello Morten,

At the very end of your file there were corrupt coordinates that spiked the distance to 69336kms :p
I removed them and the rest looks good so here ya go. Fixed with the Fit File Repair Tool.

  • removed section of FIT-file - advanced power metrics are missing

    Hi there,

i forgot to press the stop-button at the end of my last race. I used the "section remover" tool here to cut the end: https://www.fitfiletools.com/#/remover#view
I then uploaded the file to Garmin Connect. Distance and time is now okay, but most power metrics do not show up (normalized power, L/R Balance, training stress score etc.).

    Original FIT-file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/vdgawnzf4309khv/2016-07-03-07-56-45_old.fit?dl=0
    Cut file (section removed): https://www.dropbox.com/s/i0u1z7h073cch31/fitfiletools.fit?dl=0

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for help!

    Best,

    Can anyone help me?

    Hey guys

I took a nice long ride today.

It seems like my Edge 520 recorded the distance and time right, but it drew a straight line inbetween to points - so the route is off.
Any idea what and how that happend?

If you are wondering or if it's needed: this would have been the correct route: http://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=elrhbowizzvrdrud

    Please Help

After getting home today, I could not upload my fit file to Strava, Training Peaks...ect. Then I noticed it was gone, I used a file recovery tool and recovered the file, but still not luck with uploads. I fear it is corrupted. I've spent a couple hours tinkering with this, tried ad downloadable tool, used a online fit tile "fixer", all with no luck. Can anyone on here please help me?

    -Frustrated

  • I just came back from vacation where I tried to run in every city I visited as some kind of diary of my trip. Upon uploading I came to realize that the GPS data from the biggest city is missing, I have HR, elevation, distance etc... But not the GPS coordinate which are used to make the beautiful map to remember where i went. Fortunately though i was able to remember the course and was able to create a GPX file as a course in garmin connect but can't find a way to merge this GPX data with the file from the run. So I have good the GPS data (13293796.gpx.xml), and a .fit or .tcx (1300547441.fit or the TCX with the same number) file with all other data, how can I merge the 2 to repair my broken file and complete my travel diary?

Anyone can help me with that?

    Thanks
