Help with corrupt fit file

Former Member
Might as well start a thread for this like they have over in the 500 forum.

I've only had my 520 for a week, and I really like it. The only issues I've had so far are that sometimes the bluetooth requires me to restart on the device to work properly, and then tonights FIT file is really corrupt so I can't load it over to strava.

The online FIT tool doesn't fix it, and then I opened it in golden cheetah. It seems the timestamps are all whacky, where it should be increasing every second, but it looks like the stamps are becoming integer overflows. The data is there, I just don't know of a way to edit all of the timestamps by just setting them as monotonically increasing seconds after they start getting corrupt in the file.

Any ideas?

  • Thanks TIGERMOUNTRIDER for the merged FIT file, which I have now downloaded (and then uploaded to GC, etc.).

Could you now kindly delete the file from here and from Dropbox. Thanks.
  • Corrupt FIT file

    Hi there,

If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

When I was uploading my ride from my Edge 520, I agreed for Garmin Express to update (bad move). My ride would not upload after the update. Seems it may have corrupted since I can't do a manual upload to Garmin Express either.

    Thanks.

    Hello Arpie,

The Tool loaded your file with no warnings and very little corrupted data.
There appears to be no loss of data and the track returns to where you started.
Here ya go. Fixed with the Fit File Repair Tool.

    File fix?

    Hey,

I've had my first corrupt file, is there any way to fix this? The correct start date and time is 29th April 2016 at 7:30 am (Pacific Time).

    Thanks!

    Matt

I'd be happy if I could do this ride in 70 years time!
  • My first corrupt file

    My first corrupt file. ;(

Not quite sure what is wrong. Start time looks alright. 30-04-2016 12:39.01 (european time)
But strava is nagging something about time. If i check the ride time in Garmin connect I see that the movement time is way to high 17+ hours. should be 3:42:31

Time elapsed looks alright. Wat happend how to fix and better jet how to prevent. Id did a course. Is that what caused it

  • There was a jump in the timestamp to the year 2019.

Try this file. Fixed using the FitFileRepairTool.

The recording had ended abruptly without a summary. Here is the Fit File Repair Tool output.
