Help with corrupt fit file

Former Member
Might as well start a thread for this like they have over in the 500 forum.

I've only had my 520 for a week, and I really like it. The only issues I've had so far are that sometimes the bluetooth requires me to restart on the device to work properly, and then tonights FIT file is really corrupt so I can't load it over to strava.

The online FIT tool doesn't fix it, and then I opened it in golden cheetah. It seems the timestamps are all whacky, where it should be increasing every second, but it looks like the stamps are becoming integer overflows. The data is there, I just don't know of a way to edit all of the timestamps by just setting them as monotonically increasing seconds after they start getting corrupt in the file.

Any ideas?

    Sorry Jwin,

    That file is totally corrupt.
You might try this recovery program and attach the recovered file again.

Don, thanks for trying. I took a PC home and tried undelete360 and the file is the same unfortunately. Too bad.

  • Strava won't upload file - corrupt time data

If anyone can please take a look at this ride file it would be greatly appreciated.

It uploaded to Garmin Connect OK but it doesn't display all the data correctly.
Strava won't upload the file at all due to corrupt time data.
I tried the corrupt time fixer tool recommended in Strava but it didn't work for me.
First time its happened to me using the 520. Hope its not related to the 5.30 firmware upgrade.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Matt,

You have to use the recovery program with your device connected to your computer. The software tries to access your device and recover the deleted file.
That second FIT file is totally corrupt.
Any FIT file that can be opened with Notepad, Wordpad or any other text editor is totally corrupt.
A true FIT file, corrupt or not, cannot be opened with a text editor.

Have been able to fix file myself using the windows fit file repair tool.
Timestamps had gone 3 years ahead when GPS signal was momentarily lost.
Program fixed it very easily with the click of a button.
The online Garmin file repair tool couldn't repair it.

    Hi there,

Having trouble with the FIT files from my ride today. Gutted as this is the longest ride I've done (only recently started out) so would love it on Strava!
Any help would be really appreciated!

    Hello Dnmitru,

Here ya go. Fixed with the Fit File Repair Tool.

Could one of the FIT file experts merge these two files for me. I accidentally pressed "Save" mid-ride. Thanks.
