The problem encountered started after downloading a segment, which I'd created perhaps a year or two ago. Since then, running v12.8, every time I completed that segment the Garmin Virtual Partner VP was launched, and I couldn't determine how to exit VP mode. I've no idea why VP mode was launched -which never happened before to me - it never launched VP mode after a segment in the past until I downloaded that new segment). However, I'm much less interested in root-causing the issue of how out exit VP mode, than I was in disabling VP mode preventing it from ever launching. Here is what seems to be the correct procedure....
Some background info:
The Activity Profiles-APs in Garmin appear to control the behavior related to the mode that the Garmin is in. Apparently, one AP is selected at any time, which is essentially the mode that it's in. In my case it was Training. Those APs have many sub-settings, one of which is Virtual Partner, which can be disabled. To do so -- attached is my best of my understanding of how to do so....
Again, this is for v12.8.
1. Select Menu ... Settings .... Activity Profiles
-one of those will be marked selected, which is the current mode. This mode also appears on the Home page with a large title bar with the name of the AP/mode currently active.
- note: You can create a new Activity Profile, but I'd say don't bother unless you really another new mode, select one of the existing ones, make that your current mode.
2. Either create a new profile, or select the one marked -selected- below the name.
3. Select Data Screens
4. Scroll down 9 clicks, for me that's where Virtual Partner appears, and by default it's turned on.
5. Select Virtual Partner, it should say: on. if it's: off, then it's already turned off.
6. Select Enable which will turn it off.
7. Click back several times to return to the main menu, you're done.
Please respond if you find a better way of doing this.
