Syncing optical HR data from FR235 with 520?

Hi all,

I did a quick search and was not able to parse the search correctly to really narrow down to my specific question. Sorry if this is an often repeated question.

I recently got an Edge 520 as a gift, along with speed/cadence sensors. I am a longtime user of my Forerunner 235.

I would like to record my HR from the 235 as part of rides recorded on the 520. Two quick things: First - I realize I could buy a chest strap and have it work with the 520. Second - I also realize the optical sensor is not the most accurate/amazing thing. But, I ride for fun and fitness, not really looking to push my body too much training wise right now, so the inaccuracies don't bother me.

So far the best I have done is to have both devices record, and while they clearly have slightly different smoothing algorithms and GPS accuracy, the problem is that I end up with a double counted activity in my history. As well, as the summer months come on, I plan to do longer and longer rides, and I'm admittedly not the best at keeping the FR charged, so ideally I'd like to not have it in activity mode (GPS on, etc.). Again, I do understand that my best solution is to use a chest strap, but if I can avoid it I'd like to because reasons.

I guess three ways of doing this that strike me are:
- a front end to the Garmin Connect app or a completely different app that brings the two data sets together during the sync (even if I have to disconnect both from the phone during the ride so they aren't constantly syncing)
- a manual way within the Garmin Connect App or on the web that will allow me to sync the two data sets
- a way to get the 520 to accept HR data from the 235 via BT or ANT+

I have not found an obvious answer to any of these solutions, but that doesn't preclude me from being dumb and missing it in an obvious place :)

Thanks,

Steve
