D-Fly and Edge 520 Won't Connect After DI2 Firmware Update

End of 2016 I updated the firmware for DI2. Now, I cannot get the D-Fly sensor and my 520 to connect. I have "woken up" the DI2 system prior to turning on the Garmin, by shifting a few times. I've disabled/re-enabled the D-Fly sensor (on the Garmin) - no luck. I've removed the D-Fly sensor from the 520, and tried to re-add it. No luck - can't be found.

Any ideas? D-Fly and Edge 520 talked nicely to each other up until DI2 firmware update.
  • One thing to try is to disconnect and reconnect the Di2 battery from the rest of the wiring.

    You asked:

    Where is D-Fly mounted?

It is on the back part of the frame, about 6 inches from the hub.

I can try disconnect/re-connect the DI2 battery. How are you thinking that will help - just curious.
  • Removing the power source from the components causes them to reset. As the D-Fly is not in the bike frame you can do that by just disconnecting the D-fly. Wait 30 seconds or so and then reconnect it. Do you have the Di2 cable tool for disconnecting and reconnecting cables.

I do not have the DI2 tool you mentioned. Is that necessary to disconnect/connect the D-Fly?
  • I would not want you to damage the cable trying this. Have a look at the tool online. It is quite simple. It has a small open half circle at one end that fits on the cable connector to pull it out. The other end is used to push the connector in.

Your suggestion worked of disconnect D-fly, wait 30 seconds, reconnect D-fly.

Thanks. Back in business with D-Fly.

    Spoke too soon.

The Dfly and Garmin definitely DO connect after disconnect Dfly from power/wait 30 seconds/reconnect Dfly. This works fine.

However, after turning off the Garmin... wait at least 20 minutes... turn the Garmin back on (and of course "wake up" DI2 before then) - same behavior. That is, Garmin does not recognize Dfly.

The only thing I have changed is updated firmware on the DI2. Is it possible Garmin is not compatible with the updated version?

    Thanks.
  • Something else must be going on.

The latest software update for the D-Fly was made in September 2016 (Build 3.0.6) so there are lots of people using that build, including me.

Check that the data cable connection to the D-Fly is correctly connected. If it is then it sounds like the Edge is not retaining the sensor details correctly. You may have to do a reset of the Edge and repair the units.

I would check that the cable is fully inserted and if it is then post the settings.fit file and I will take look at that to see if anything looks wrong.

Where does the settings.fit file come from, and I will send it to you.

BTW, I (again) disconnected/waited 30 seconds/reconnected the Dfly, just to verify I could duplicate the problem. Same behavior - connects immediately to the Garmin, but second time I turn on Garmin, dfly is not recognized.
