Keep getting 'corrupted' files that make battery life unacceptable (<4.5 hours)

I am a bit of a power user on the Strava segment and 'courses' front, so I am frequently loading files onto my device. For whatever reason I continue to get corrupt files that dramatically impact my unit's battery life (as in, dies in roughly four hours, down from 10-12ish). When this happened before, Garmin support walked me through the process of purging all files from the device and starting fresh. It worked, but only for a few months. Now I'm back to four hours of battery life, which means I have another corrupt file. Frankly I'm sick of this.

Anyone else have this issue? Anyone else found a solution or know a solution? Should I just give up and buy the 820? Oh wait, it has even more issues than the 520. FFS.
  • Maybe don't put so much on your device or have too many starred segments or courses.

The more that's on there, the more it has to process. The more it has to process, the bigger the hit on battery life.

Thanks for the reply. The volume of segments or courses isn't the issue that I know of -- it's the one corrupted file that upsets the whole apple cart. At least, that's my belief.
  • Is the reduced battery life you experience while you're navigating a course? The times I have used navigation I found that battery consumption was double what I normally experience because the 520 is doing so much.

To reduce battery consumption I found that setting the backlight to manual and turning off the Bluetooth connection had the greatest effect. In addition, using the map sparingly also helps as the 520 is constantly re-drawing the map as you move.
