Navigation and turn by turn

Hi,

I have installed OpenStreetMap on my Garmin Edge 520 and uploaded some courses. The map works perfectly and I get to see the route. If I leave the map view and go back to a data screen I don't get the next turn showing up. On my data screen the next course turn point is the end of the course.

I have seen it come up from time to time, but I don't know what I am missing. Any help would be most welcome.

Best wishes

In order to get distance to the next turn you need to have Course Points which can be added to TCX files. RideWithGPS, plotaroute, GPSies and bikeroutetoaster are four sites that add course points. Garmin Connect does not. The data field "Crs Pt Dist" displays the distance to the next course point along with a small turn direction icon. There will be a small pop up with the turn direction icon and the name of the street when the course point is reached.

"Turn Guidance" is the built in navigation on the 520 and it gives pop ups based on changes in direction in the course but is not that reliable. It shows the turn when within .1 mile but gives no information on distance to next turn other that that. Both navigation methods can be active at the same time.

Select no for the prompt asking if you want to navigate to the beginning of the course.

Thanks for the reply. These courses were made on the Garmin course maker section. These don't add turn points? I tried to upload courses to the site, but it seems they have to be old activities or made on the site. You can't import a tcx file.

What is the best way to get courses on to the 520 with course points?

    Best wishes Michael

Had the same issue with Garmin Connect courses. Started using Ride with GPS and it works beautifully. I just followed these instructions - http://ridewithgps.com/help/export-routes-to-garmin-device
