Syncing Strava Heart Rate and Garmin

I downloaded one of the Garmin Connect Apps that shows your Strava Suffer Score in real time. I read that for it to be accurate, you have to sync the numbers for the Garmin Connect heart rate with Strava. I can find both sections of where this needs to be done, the problem is that I don't know exactly how to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  • You need to have your heart rate zones the same on both Garmin Connect and Strava.

In Garmin Connect you set the zones under Device Settings, User Settings. On Strava click your picture on the front page and it's under Settings, My Performance.

I'd suggest using zones based on heart rate reserve as that uses your resting heart rate and your maximum heart rate. You need to measure both for them to be accurate. 220 minus your age for maximum is not the most accurate way of finding your maximum heart rate.

I appreciate the help. The problem that I'm having is that the parameters and values look totally different in Strava and Garmin Connect.
  • The simplest way of doing it is to set the zones up in Garmin Connect. You should see the number values for each heart rate zone.

Then you go to Strava > Settings > My performance. Click on the pencil icon next to Heart Rate Zones and choose Custom. Drag the sliders for each zone until the numbers match what you see in Garmin Connect.

    Click Save and you're done.
  • I've done the above a couple times. My Suffer Score on the 520 is always a lot lower than reported on Strava. Again--the numbers match on Garmin Connect and Strava exactly. As an example--the other day my Garmin read a SS of 59, but Strava reported it as 108. Ideas?
