Did anyone encounter this issue recently?
I had a Garmin Edge 520 (Firmware 6.0) & Garmin Vector 2 (Firmware 3.90).
After i plugin my Edge 520 to Garmin Express Software, as usual doing it's syncing stuff. At the same time there's new Vector 2 Firmware (4.0) notification availability on Garmin Express.
I have no intention to update my Garmin Edge & Vector 2 firmware after synchronization completed. My edge batt is 100% charged so i powered on my edge 520, spin my crank to wake up Vector 2. Just after the Garmin splash screen, it automatically shuts off itself.
After much frustrations repeatedly shuts down after 10 seconds powered on, i change my Vector 2 batteries to new ones. Still the same issue. I thought my hardware was gone or bricked:(
These are the following steps i took hours to isolate the problems after changing new set of vector batteries (which probably could be the Egde 520 or Vector 2):
Part 1
- Wait till Vector 2 is in Sleep Mode
- Powered on Edge 520, it is able to power on & as usual after boot up screen (with the reminder to update software 6.20).
- Ignored & select "Remind Me Later
- Spin my Vector 2 to wake up, edge detected my Power Meter.
- After Edge 520 detected it, within seconds Edge 520 just powered off immediately.
Part 2
- Did a master factory reset on my Edge 520.
- Add in Speed/Cadence Senor, detected successfully.
- Add in HRM Sensor, detected successfully.
- Add in Vector 2 Power Sensor, detected successfully but went shut down again immediately within seconds.
Part 3
- Wait till Vector 2 in sleep mode.
- Powered on Edge 520, it is able to power on & as usual after boot up screen(with the reminder to update software 6.20).
- Ignored & select "Remind Me".
- Disabled Vector 2 Power Sensor
- Edge 520 remains functional is per normal.
After spending hours isolating the problem, i decided to scour through the files & folders in Edged 520.
Plugin Edge 520 to my computer, & realized there's this new file added to "RemoteSW" Folder. I took a shot & removed the filename "006B216102.GCD" dated 29th June 2016.
To my surprised, my edge 520 powered on & remains as per normal after enabling my Vector 2 Power Sensor. No Vector 2 errors code display on Edge 520, everything works perfectly fine now.
Can Garmin Technical Team explain why this happened & what can be done to prevent such issues?:mad:
