Auto-pause in a Workout

I've just started using the Workouts functionality and discovered that despite auto-pause being turned on in the profile, it is disabled when doing a work-out. Is this how it should work or is it a potential problem with my 520?

You might ask why are you wanting auto-pause on within a workout - it is just for the the coffee session after the workout (last step is to press the lap button to end the workout), where i want it to auto-pause before heading home. If i manually pause the ride, it wants to power down. As a work around, i suppose i could just leave it running which would effect ave speed and the like, or turn off the auto-power down

Thanks

    This is by design.

The idea is that workouts are generally time-based with intervals. It doesn't matter if you are stopped or moving during an interval. If its a recovery interval, even though you are stopped, you are still "recovering".

In your case, at the end of a workout, I would just hit the lap button and let the workout complete. The Garmin will still continue to record the ride and all your data even though the workout has completed.
  • It's a three year old call but still, the disabling of "Auto pause" (and timer!) without possibility to change it *just sucks*. Despite of the other answer that it is by design, this function is *bs*. When I'm doing intervals I try not be disturbed, but this doesn't always work as planned. In recovery, it would be ok, but at sweet spot I would like to have the choice. Not everyone lives in a desert ;)
