After being a long time user of the 500 I've jumped the touchscreen 510 and gone to the 520 (v6.0 fw). Overall I'm pretty impressed, particularly the sync with smartphone & apps.
One thing I wish I could have back from the 500 is alternative 5 screen displays. As it is the 520 only gives breakdown horizontally upto 5 fields and then splits the horizontal screens upto 10 fields. There is no ability to create double height displays at all, which is a shame. Not all fields have the same importance within a display and showing them all the same size is poor.
Particularly this is the case for common displays such as 5 screens. On the 500 I could show a 1/2 screen height top display e.g. speed in large font and below the bottom 1/2 split to 4 blocks. I really wish I could do this for the 520.
There's a strong case imo for there to be new generic alternative display modes for common field displays such as 5-6-7 fields to display an upper field in double height and larger font, with standard size single height lower fields.
I know a possible route for this would be a connectIQ custom screen, but I think this is a real oversight by the Garmin developers and would be a real asset to the display modes for the 520/1000.
Hopefully the dev people can add this back to a future FW update.
