Course colour issue

On the advise of the forum I tweaked my navigation settings - basically turned all the Garmin navigation stuff off and just used the turn directions embeded in the tcx from ridewithgps. Also had the "course point distance" field on the map page.

Worked great - better than the edge 800 that I replaced the 520 with (that always had a kind of it's own and usually got me lost!)

Wish the arrow in the "course point distance" field was a bit bigger but still was very useful.

One thing I noticed was that I couldn't set a colour for the course that was displayed on the map. I normally use purple as it contrasts with the OSM - and that used to work .....but today it stayed white whatever setting I used in the course settings menu.

Is this a bug in v6 or is that because I didn't let the garmin calculate the turns for me ?

You should be able to change the colour of the course you want to follow. First load the course, then select Settings, then "Color" (don't know why people can't spell such simple words correctly!), then select the colour that you want from the choices offered.

It would be great if it were possible to change the default colour so that you did not need to do this for every course, but that's not on offer at the moment.

I understand that - what I'm saying is that it didn't work - whatever colour I chose the course displayed in white. It certainly did work before the firmware update but I've also turned off the 520 calculating route stuff since then so I don't know what broke it
  • Also mentioned in my thread too.

Choosing the colour of the course only sets the colour of the route if 'always show' is selected.
As I have multiple courses I dont want a multicoloured map with all the courses displayed!

I find the course point feature useful (which you only get when navigating) The white road overrides the course colour preset!

That's not strictly correct. The colour option worked even if always show is disabled - I've used it loads and it was working great in purple. I've never enabled the 'always show' option previously. Now I get a white route whatever options I have selected.

Your past progress is still in blue

Dunno if this is a v6 firmware thing ?
  • David - check this out

This is how it should look...these are the settings I used to use - but the garmin "turn guidance" is a distraction so best turn it off and use rwgps tcx course points...
  • The video has the Garmin map in 2D mode, I wonder if that is the problem?
    Mine is in 3D mode.

Yes the past progress is blue, however, I was stating what the Garmin does currently (colour option only affects route when 'always display' is selected and I dont navigate).

Having a white route is a little annoying! Maybe we will be treated to a whole load of bug fixes in the next update? :)

Just checking you were choosing the colour in the right place.

If you want to eliminate the other changes you made you need to go back to the settings you had previously and check them out one by one.

This is working for me still in V6.0 with OSM 2D mapp, Orientation set to Track Up, Auto Zoom On and Always Show Off - so on the face of it, it sounds like just a 3D issue introduced in V6 and missed by the woefully inadequate QA regression testing that Garmin may or may not run on each release.

I'll see what happens on a ride tomorrow in both 3D and 2D modes.

I'll try changing some settings tomorrow too. Just a pain to spend half an hour fighting the garmin where you just need to get on an ride.

I'll try 2D as it seems like the only difference in settings we might have - although this was working fine in 5.30
