Firmware v6.00 - always sets wrong date and corrupts every single activity I record

Firmware v6.00 has ruined my Edge 520, it is basically unusable with v6.00 installed since it always produces corrupted date stamps, hence I cannot upload my activies to WKO4+ or Strava. I have tried using various pieces of software to fix the .fit files but have had no luck.

When I turn on the 520, and wait for confirmation that the GPS has been found, it displays a completely incorrect time of day, and when I finally save the file it has a meaningless year of 2088. Can I roll back my version? Is there a fix? Why on earth would an update be released that renders the unit useless?

I don't think 6.0 is the problem. Something must have gotten corrupted in the upgrade. You can try rolling back the update.

Check this post for how to roll back. And here is the link to 5.3. Maybe rolling back to 5.2 or 5.3 and letting GE reinstall 6.0 might fix it. If not reformatting should fix it.

The Fit File Repair Tool should be able to fix your bad files. If you post the files or a link to them someone can use the tool to fix them.
  • I would start be deleting and reloading the time zone map.

delete this file Garmin\gmaptz.img, restart the Edge. Shut it down and connect it to Garmin Express. It should then re-install the file.

If that does not fix it you should probably then try a reset.
    Prompted non-vol clear –

    • Turn device off
    • Hold the Down key while powering on the device
    • Continue holding the down key until the “Factory Reset” prompt appears
    • Select OK to clear

    520 is now frozen

My 520 is now frozen how do I reset it?
  • Frozen on?

Hard Reset – press and hold power button for ~10 seconds, may take as long as 30 seconds

Thanks everyone, I ended up on the phone to Garmin customer service and tried a few things like the suggestions here. No luck, and in the end they just asked me to RMA it. Once I get the replacement I will ask if they found out what the problem was.
