Can't Change Speed Sensor Manual Wheel Size

Under Settings > Sensors > Speed Sensor > Sensor Details > Wheel Size, I can't change the manual wheel size. I when I enter a new number, and hit the check mark, the old number reappears.

I have two sensors, and they're both stuck. One is set to the correct number. The other is set to 2096, which i guess is some default number. That is grossly wrong, but I can't change it. How can I fix this?
  • This is a bug that was introduced in the 5.30 release. You can either set the wheel size to automatic and let the Edge calculate a value (assuming it will let you do that), rollback the software to release 5.20 or wait for the next release.

    2096 is based on a 700 x 23C road tire.

Thank you. The Garmin calculated wheel size is off, and shortchanges my distance. How do I roll back to 5.20? If you can point me to instructions, I'd appreciate it.
  • You can rollback quite easily, but you need to beware that GCM and GE will push the 5.30 update down to your device. Once you have set the wheel size you could upgrade to 5.30.

Download this file to the Garmin folder on the Edge and rename it to gupdate.gcd. http://gawisp.com/perry/edge/Edge520_520.gcd

I would backup the contents of the following folders before doing this as it may clear those when going back a version
    Garmin\Settings
    Garmin\Locations
    Garmin\Sports

After the update place the files you backed up in the Garmin\NewFiles folder and the Edge will restore them.

Luckily my Edge did the update to version 5.30 after my race on the weekend. Otherwise I would have been screwed. I wished there was a way to turn off automatic update.

After rolling back to 5.20, all my personal records on the Edge are gone. I backed up all the suggested files and placed them in Garmin\NewFiles after the update.
  • Your PRs should be stored in GC. You should be able to push them from GC to the Edge.

I would have to agree with that, but the speed sensor overrides the GPS when connected.

Thank you Aweatherall for the instructions. Downgrading solved my problem.

I (accidentally) found a way to prevent the Garmin from updating. I put a 91gm map file on it, so that it has 12gb remaining. When Garmin Express tries to update, it fails, saying, "The Latest software does not fit on your device's internal memory." No more automatic update!

Tried to push my PRs from GC, but it also pushed down Firmware 5.30, so I had to roll back to 5.20 again :( I guess I will need to wait until the next firmware update.
  • Sorry I should have added
    Garmin\Records to me earlier list.
