Which mount and why?

Which mount do you use? I'm thinking of mounting the 520 on the stem or using the upfront mount. I'm thinking that with the upfront mount it might be easier to just glance at the 520 without taking my eyes off the road for too long. Is that sound thinking or is the choice mostly an esthetic one?

  • I'm using a custom "out front" mount from barfly due to the way my handlebar i designed.

I would at all times prefer an "out front" mount due to several factors:
1: most likely better radio reception/line of sight to sensors.
    2: better aerodynamics
3: more flexible and you can choose the easiest to view angle of the mount
4: looks better as far as i'm concerned.

road bike on the out front mount, on my fixie, using the smaller mount on my top tube. (I sometimes swap out my handlebars, easier not to deal with that as well.)

(On the fixie, I wrap the tether around the tt before putting it into the mount.)
  • I am using the Bar Fly Road Mini (2.0 SLi) with the GoPro and Di2 junction box attachments. I wanted a mount that could attach my GoPro Hero4 Session camera to that is not too long. With the Bar Fly Road Mini, i could still get to the bottom two buttons (the lap and start/stop buttons). I also considered K-Edge's XL combo mount but decided the Bar Fly Road mini would fit best.
  • I usually use my edge on the stem of my XC bike.
I don't find hard to look at the screen and keep an eye on the path.
I also believe that this is the configuration with the best compromise of protection and usability.
  • I use the included Garmin out front mount. Why? Easy to see/view the display. Give my bike clean lines.
