Characteristics of auto pause

I've yet to go for a ride with my new 520 (waiting on new bike) but have a question about the auto pause feature. On a typical club ride we take a 10 minute break about half way through. I know I can adjust the auto sleep function as well as the auto pause. So I have it set to auto pause when I stop moving. When I resume my ride, in about 10 minutes, do I need to do anything other than move to get the unit to begin recording again? Any button pushes or does it just start recording upon detection of motion? Assuming it goes to sleep during the break are there any button pushes needed to get it going again?

  • I do usually stop for about 7-10 minutes and edge 520 doesnt go into sleep, its just paused and when I continue to ride it starts again. I read some posts from people, who had problems with sudden 520 shut off and even from this stage, it is possible to continue recording in same file, so I quess that that even if 520 would go into sleep, recording should not be interrupt. I did not setup auto sleep on my edge, but it has deffinetely be setup for shorter time, than I usually do break. When I arrive home, I let 520 to swith off automatically and I know, that it beeps and goes off, included radar, very quickly, not more than 5 minutes. But I would be interested too, if there is any interval, when 520 switches off when paused, or if it stays on and paused till battery drained.
  • If you put the 'auto off' off [it's in the ride profiles I think], the Garmin will not switch off. If it does switch off, you can tart it and it will retain your old data.
