How to manually enter wheel circumference?

I have a bike set up on my Kurt Kinetic Road Machine 2.0 fluid trainer. The trainer has no sensors. It's just a basic trainer. I also train on rollers.

I have a bike with tubulars (2130 circumference according to the owner's manual and close enough for indoor training) set up for indoor training on both the rollers and the fluid trainer. I have installed the new style Garmin speed and cadence sensors on the bike and both successfully paired (from the factory) and provide data to the Edge 520 when ridden on the trainer.

Do I have to go outside and ride the bike with GPS to calibrate the speed sensor or is there someplace to manually enter the circumference number as there was on the Edge 510?

Thanks!

  • on the 520 the wheel size is an attribute of the speed sensor.

While the Edge is in communication with the speed sensor go to sensor listing and select the speed sensor, then the sensor details and you will see an option to set the wheel size manually or allow the Edge to compute the size using GPS data (automatic).

I figured it out while I was on the trainer. Initially I had tried finding the setting with the 520 nowhere near in proximity to the sensor. While on the bike and riding on the trainer I pulled up the sensor details and manually changed the setting from the 2096 (700 x 23C) factory default to the 2130 for the 700 tubulars.

I couldn't figure out how the default setting was generating speeds that felt very close to the effort...now I know!

    Again, thank you sir!
