Frozen edge 520

Hi all,
My dearest bought me a 520 for Xmas! Hurrah! It was fine for a few rides, then I tried to get strava live to work with no joy. A friend suggested plugging into Garmin express as I hadn't done that yet and he thought it might register and update something that could help. So I did that and now its completely frozen. When i turn it on the start up 'Garmin' screen comes on, then it gets as far as having 'loading maps' at the bottom and no further. It's unresponsive to anything. If I hold the power button for 10seconds it'll restart, but just does the same thing again.... ?? I've tried leaving it on the window sill incase it needs to find satellites and still nothing... It's been like this for a couple ofnday now and I was hoping to do an ftp test tonight.. Darn!! Does anyone have any ideas??? Or does anyone know how to do a master reset???

All the best,

Owain
  • It sounds like an update file is not getting processes correctly.

Force the unit in to mass storage mode (see the instructions below).

Then remove all file from the Garmin\NewFiles folder if there are any there and also the
Garmin\GUPDATE.GCD file if it is on the device.

    It should then restart.

    Force to Mass Storage:

    • Power the device off
    • Press and hold the lap button while plugging into usb (with or without factory cable)
    • Wait 10 seconds and device should go to mass storage

    hi Alan,

Thanks, I've just done exactly that after reading another of your posts elsewhere. I forced mass storage mode which allowed me to connect it to Garmin Express, then it suggested a software update. Did that and hey presto! sorted! lost all my old rides though, which is no biggy, but I was enjoying peaking at the recovery advisor. Is there anyway to push activities from Garmin connect back onto the device?

    thanks,

    Owain
  • Sadly putting previous rides back on to the device will not repopulate the recovery advisor.
