Always selects the same Activity Profile when powering on

Just getting ready for winter riding so have cloned an existing Activity Profile as described in

http://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?320923-Garmin-Connect-or-other-Application-to-Manage-E520-Settings&highlight=Connect+Application+Manage+E520+Settings

and renamed it for my winter bike. This all seems to work fine in terms of creating a new Activity Profile, but...

When powering on the 520 the newly created profile is always selected regardless of which profile that was previously active. How can I fix this so that it behaves correctly - i.e. the last active profile is selected when the device is turned on?

Firmware version 3.00
  • In firmware 3.0, the previously selected activity profile is the default one when the device is turned on.

From the initial power on screen, before pressing Start, press the upper right button to get the profile list. Otherwise it defaults to the previous selected profile.

Thanks for the responses. They both say what should happen and was indeed happening until I added another Activity Profile. Since then it ALWAYS switches to the same Activity Profile regardless of the one that was active previously.

Expecting that the 520 would be working as expected I didn't read your first post correctly. All I can figure is something in file that was exported to the 520 is causing the behavior. Maybe try deleting the profile and adding in manually on the 520 rather than importing a file.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll reluctantly give it a go - the reason for cloning an existing Activity Profile was to avoid the very painful process of setting all the data screens.
  • ditto...activity profile default

I'm having the same issue...created an indoor profile and now whenever I start the 520 it uses that as a default.... Garmin customer service told me this is not correct, and want me to return the hardware to them...which I'll do since i also have sensor recognition issues with my 520

when i set it up next time i'll do the profile i use 90% of the time LAST... hopefully if it is a bug at least it'll default to the more frequent profile... of course this means re-entering all the data fields...
  • I removed the sticky activity profile (the indoor profile that I customized before upgrading to 3.0 in my case) and the problem went away. I created a couple new profiles, including a new indoor profile, and it always comes back to the last used profile.

good to know...so the procedure should be...

    1) delete profiles
    2) upgrade to 3.0
    3) create new profiles, and then the profiles will pull up the last one selected.

a bit painful, but a one time issue...hoepfully the next revision won't require the same drill with profiles

    thanks

So I now have a partial fix for this, but only after some messing around...

    I deleted the sticky profile
Then recreated it manually with the same name - the result being back to sticky profile

    I deleted the sticky profile
Then created it manually with the same name plus an extra (non space) character - the result being a teflon (that's non sticky) profile

I went through various iterations and combinations of names, changing active profile, creating further multiple profiles etc., but every time I created a profile with the same name as the originally sticky profile - it was still sticky.

So no sticky profile now, and I hope after the next firmware update that will sort out the issue as it seemed to do for those with this type of issue before the 3.0 firmware was installed.

    Mine is ok

When I plugged my new 520 into my computer it updated the firmware to version 3.0.
I deleted the supplied profile and manually generated 2 new ones calling them different names to that originally supplied. I have had no problems with the 520, the last active profile is always on the screen when I switch on.
