Edge 25 does not save settings?

Former Member
Former Member
Hi, I have a brand new Edge 25 and whenever I change settings on the device, for example, switch of beeps on key presses, and then power off the device, and power it back on, the device looses the changes I have just made. I tried changing auto lap and all those route settings, but the changes I make on the device itself are lost immediately after a poweroff of the device. Is that normal? Can I not change the settings and they are saved? If I have to make those changes each time I power on the device, that is pretty useless. Any help would be appreciated. I have the latest firmware installed.

There's an issue with the 2.5 firmware update.
We're all having the same problem. Some users are reporting that Garmin is working is this particular issue.

Edge 25 does not save settings after power off - firmware 2.50

I'm having the exact same issue since upgrading the firmware today - definitely an issue with 2.50.

As it's a brand new Edge 25 I've just purchased for a 460km ride next week I'm not too impressed.

Garmin - you need to review your Acceptance Testing. I know stuff can always slip through but something like this really shouldn't passed QA and UAT. 2.50 should be pulled a new firmware needs to be released a-sap.

    Yup

You're preaching to the choir buddy. It seems as though this isn't some bug where a "small number of users are affected." As far as I can tell, the firmware is this broken for everyone.

New 25 today for my wife. Couldn't believe it did not save. Glad to hear it's a firmware flaw and not a design point. Fix it soon Garmin.

Does anyone elses now also make now a small buzzing sound when you hold up to your ear since 2.50?

    Save your settings

I have been able to develop a work around that forces the unit to read the your last set of settings created in Garmin Connect. This will allow the unit to Boot up remembering the settings that were made in Garmin Connect. This did work for my unit and I would be interested if it works for others.

Step 1) Open Garmin Express and connect your Edge 25 device to the USB cable
Step 2) Confirm the Edge 25 shows up as connected in Garmin Express
Step 3) Click on the Tools button and open the menu.
Step 4) you should notice 3 tabs above the text "optional updates" Click on Garmin Connect. Do not Click on Garmin connect from the front page as there appears to be two versions of connect.(Ill explain if anyone really cares)
    Step 5) click edit profile
Step 6) just to the left of the CONNECT banner at the top of the page is a pull down menu with 3 horizontal lines. Use the pull down menu and double click on the word device. This should open up a screen to allow you to program your preferred setting. Make sure that you see buttons for Auto Lap and Lap key. If they do not show up the other version of connect has launched (probably 2.3s version but I have not confirmed this yet)
Step 7) Set up you preferred setting the way you would like. I have only been having my ride setting forgotten but I would do all three pages. Make sure you hit the save button.
Step 8) on the left tool bar there should be a button with the number 3 in it, this is the sync button. Sync your Edge 25.
Step 9) After the Sync process is complete open windows file explorer and find find your Edge 25 in the tree. It should show up as a drive letter and and Say Garmin Edge 25. Open the Garmin Folder and you should find several sub folders. Open The NEWFILES folder. You should three files. These are actually the files that were sent over from connect. Control Click all three files and highlight them. Right click on the files and open the properties menu. Change the attributes to read only for all three files.

Step 10) This should complete the operation you can now remove the edge 25 from the USB cable. Turn the unit off and back on and confirm that the settings are remembered.

I am interested to know if this works. One thing, You will need to change the attributes back to none or remove these files in order to change further setting. But at least it makes the thing work a bit easier.\\

workaround doesn't work for me :(

    Thanks for posting this NR6Q

High hopes but alas didn't work for me. My weight and so on still just reverts back back to 350lbs (lol) but most irritating is the display/data field settings.

Think I'm going to return and exchange and hope i can get one with the older firmware.

    Version 2.60 problem still in!

    Wow this sucks!

I had the same problem with version 2.50 and I just upgraded to version 2.60.
Update was available in Garmin Express, but it is not on the Garmin site yet.

Ok, after the update it doesn't remember any of it's options anymore!!

In version 2.50 it remembered the language and my profile settings but now it doesn't remember anything!

Also when powering on, it says "updating time with GPS"...

The device is useless now, I think I will send it back.

    Ok, the trick does work!
    Also with version 2.60

Only the language and the time will not be remembered by the device...

It still says: setting time by gps
