How to un-pair HR monitors?

Former Member
Former Member
It appears the Edge 25 can pair to at least two HR monitors and remember them both. Then, when it is turned on it will connect to either/or if they are simultaneously active. This is not acceptable because when I ride with my partner who is using one of the paired HR monitors, hers often connects and I'm receiving her heart rate, not mine.

Based on other devices (Forerunner watches) I would expect the Edge 25 to overwrite/forget the previous HR monitor whenever a new one gets paired, but this does not happen.

Is there a way to un-pair both and start over?

Re: How to un-pair HR monitors?

I found a solution. It required a hard reset as described at the top of this thread.

I used "Hard reset - method 2". The ANT+ HRM pairing data is stored in the SETTINGS.FIT file, so all I had to do was restore the other backed-up FIT files to retain my ride history.

Then I re-pair the one HRM I want.
  • HRM Proximity

The Edge 25 stores multiple sensors of the same type including HRM. It also utilizes proximity to make connection choices. If you find yourself connected to the wrong HRM, you can hold the Edge 25 directly against the HRM on your chest. The device should note the close proximity of this sensor and choose it over the more distant HRM of your partner. Doing this prior to going on a ride with another HRM you have been paired to should keep you on the sensor you want.

Okay, I guess I spoke too soon. One would think doing a hard reset would put everything back to factory settings. The Edge 25 didn't forget the other HRM and still picks it up from 30 ft away.

Please! Is there some way to get it cleared!?

This is not a solution. My heart rate strap is a MIO wrist band. It has a transmission range of about 3-4 feet. Hers is the regular Garmin chest strap. It is very strong with a range of at least 10 yards. All I have to do is walk away from the bike at a rest stop and her strap takes over the HRM connection. Mine never regains connection. Please tell me how to reset the unit to some condition before I paired both HRM transmitters.
  • farinosa,

Is the activity paused when you hit a rest stop or have you reset the activity at this point?

The unit is set to auto pause. If I walk away from the bike, my wrist strap goes out of range and my partner's other chest strap takes over the connection and her bpm gets displayed thereafter. It is a moot point now. I returned it to the vendor an I am getting a replacement to start clean. I'll just have to be careful not to pair any other hrm but my own.

Do you guys have any solution for this problem?
I'm encountering the same problem here.

Garmin is aware of this issue and is working to release a future software update that will make it easier to remove sensors that may have paired with the device by mistake.

Thank you. Hope to see it's released soon.
  • HRM collisions

Just weighing in that I had bought the Edge 25 under the sole premise that I could pair certain sensors and ignore others. I use an Edge 1000 and am still hoping to see profiles that can select certain sets of sensors, and am optimistic given that we can now configure GPS on a profile basis (i.e. shut it off for trainer, turn on GLONASS for MTB, etc.). I had updated to the 1000 from the 750 primarily to eliminate the sensor collision problem (plus GLONASS really helps in the mountains).

I just now updated to version 3.00 on my wife's Edge 25 so will test this when we ride tandem tomorrow, but the main problem we've been having is that her Edge is often physically closer to my HRM than hers on our tandem (it's mounted on the stoker bar for her to see), and without indicating whose it's picking up we simply can't trust the readings.

Incidentally, we're also using the Garmin cadence-only sensor mounted on the captain's non-timing-drive crank, which it seemed to pair to and read just fine before the battery died last time. I had originally mounted a GSC-10 with a magnet on her timing-side crankarm, until noticing that it grabs the metal timing chain on the way by... (doh!).
