Wheel size for garmin speed sensor

I've just bought a speed sensor for my Edge 25 but I'm not sure what wheel size Edge 25 think I'm using. Does any of you guys know? I use for indoor training
  • Apparently it should self-calibrate, but I suspect you'll need to go for a short ride outdoors with GPS enabled for that to happen.

Older Edge models show an initial default value of 2100. For current models the setting is blank until updated using GPS. But they do show speed and are using some value. My guess is that value is 2100.

Correct. You need to ride for a mile in a straight line for the sensor to calibrate to the wheel. You'll get a beep and message on the unit when it does.
  • For those in the know...

Does the unit hold that wheel size info as default, or does it require a new 1 mile measurement every time?

And to answer my own question... from Alan 'The Guru'

Once it is calibrate the Edge continually uses the GPS data to check and adjust the value. For an indoor ride make sure to disable the GPS so that it stops this process. The unit will use its current calibration value. There is no need to do an outside ride before your indoor ride once the unit has done the first calibration.

    Thanks Alan!
